Question

TurboTax Desktop assumed I lived in two States and did two State Returns in error

Hi

I am using Desktop to do my taxes (I live in MA only) as well as my In-laws Taxes they live in (Hawaii)

I did my In-laws taxes first - already filed them in fact - no issues.

Now I am nearly done mine and I see Turbo tax wants to file a MA return and a non-resident Hawaii return for me.

It never asked if I lived in Hawaii I do not need to file one and I am afraid this assumption may have affected my MA State filing.

How do I communicate to the software that just because I filed Hawaii State Taxes for one person using Desktop that it does not mean all returns I will file should include the State of Hawaii.

I see I can just not elect to file it but I would like to get my Turbo tax records clean.  I used Desktop last year and imported all my data and it still did this (I did not use it last year to file my In-laws return)

Very frustrating.

Thanks

Kimo

When you get to the state section, click the trash can next to the Hawaii return to delete it from your file.
