Turbotax did not do this for me, On my 1040 deduction schedule A, shouldn't I be able to get a deduction in block #5b which is General Sales Taxes?

Yes, if you are eligible for itemized deductions, you can enter sales taxes on your return. If you did not use the "guide me/interview" feature this may have been skipped.

Please see these instructions for adding sales tax:

    • On the Tax Timeline, select "Federal Taxes".
    • Select "Deductions and Credits".
    • Select "Check for more breaks" then "Skip to see all tax breaks".
    • Scroll down to "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid" and click "Show more" to expand the list.
    • Click "Start" next to "Sales Tax" and follow the interview process.
