Question

TurboTax is asking which state my wife made money in but she isn't a resident and lives abroad?

My wife is currently a citizen of a different country and we are awaiting her visa interview. As such, she did not make any money in the US but Turbo Tax isn't giving me an option to select anything of the sort. Yes, we do have her ITIN.

Turbo Tax is asking, what is her state of residence? My choices are:

1) Just Wisconsin.

2) She had more than one state of residency.

3) She made money in Wisconsin last year, but never lived there.

Since we are are filing in Wisconsin, should I select she made money in Wisconsin since that is the state we are paying taxes in? I'm just a bit unsure since she didn't make any money here...

If you are electing to file a joint return with your spouse, select the option "Just Wisconsin" here.

What TurboTax is trying to determine is if you need to file a nonresident return for income earned in Wisconsin while living away (doesn't seem to be the case for you) or if you need to add any additional state returns (also not the case here.)
