Question

Turbotax lists NY state tax withholding as 0, but w-2's box 17 has more than what's shown as tax due to the state. Is this correct?

Turbotax lists my NY state tax withholding as 0 when filing state taxes, but my w-2's box 17 has more than what's shown as tax due to the state, so in theory I should get a small refund (unless box 17 doesn't mean it's withheld). I see no place to edit that. The w-2 was read automatically by Turbotax. What do I do?

Check your W-2. If your state code in Box 15 "NY"? If so then TurboTax will carry the Box 17 amount to your NY state tax return. Also check to make sure your state wages and tax withheld are on the same row in TurboTax,

To get back to your W-2

  1. Type w-2 in Search in the upper right
  2. Click Jump to W-2
  3. Select Review on the W-2 you want to check

Thanks for your help. Apparently, TurboTax did not import both pages of my W-2, it’s showing the data for CT but not NY. So, I’ll have to add the NY part manually.
