Unemployment 1099-G: I applied in Dec 2023 but didn't receive payment until 2024, is this why I didn't receive a 1099-G?

I applied in early December 2023 when I was laid-off, but then received payment for 3 weeks in December at the end of January 2024 where my weekly payments started. Is this why I don't receive a 1099-G? Just want to make sure if I don't need to file them until next year or not.

Since you did not receive any unemployment benefits until January 2024, you will be entering it on your 2024 tax return next year.  You will get a 1099G from your state, and will need to enter it on your 2024 return.

Perfect, It's what I was thinking but didn't want to accidentally not claim. Most say you get it for the year you "received" benefits not "applied," however I wanted to be certain.
