I moved to FL 01/01/2024 as I did transfer from NY. I was getting taxed still because I did not update my address until 02/09/2024. So since Feb I noticed NY was not taking anymore state taxes. But I just now received my W-2 Wage & Tax Statement 2024 and box 1 and box 16 match the same amount but box #14 shows NY State Wages $4997.64. Since I did not update my address until Feb box number 17 says $208.92 which would have been the amount they taxed in the month of January for each pay thinking I was still living in NY. My question is why does box number 14 say NY state wages with the amount $4997.64? I was told by my employer it’s year to date but I do not understand how is that year to date but that amount was never taken out for the year of 2024 so why is it on my 2024 tax statement

Employers can put just about anything in box 14; it's a catch-all for items that don't have their own dedicated box on the W-2.   Only your employers know why they enter the items in Box 14.  The numbers in Box 14 that are coded as Other - not on list, are not used to calculate your taxes.

Your remote work is considered taxable if you’re doing it for yourself and not because your employer requires you to work remotely. If you’re unsure, here’s how to figure out whether your remote work is taxable or not.
