i’d only worked and resided in North Carolina for the first 2-3 months of 2022 which meant a pretty useless AGI to Tax Return ratio, so i chose not to file for that state. what does this mean for me this tax year?

Possibly none but the IRS is authorized by IRC section 6103(d) to disclose federal tax information to state and local tax authorities for tax administration purposes. IRS and state and local agencies share data such as audit results, federal individual and business return information, and employment tax information.

Not filing 2022 if there is a tax liability may be more important.  interest and penalties are increasing the longer you wait and generally there is no statute of limitations when there is non-filing.

some states quickly pick up on non-filing others may take two or three years.
