Question

Where do I enter Form 1095-B data for California return?

In the California section for Health Insurance Coverage for 2022, there is a TurboTax link for “What if I have a Form 1095-B…” that provides more information.  It says in part:  “If you have a 1095-B, a form titled Health Coverage, the FTB [Franchise Tax Board for California] does need information from this form…”

From reading other answers in this forum, I understand that the IRS doesn’t need any detail from Form 1095-B.  But according to the above TurboTax information, California does need the information.  So how do I get the information into my California return?

Thanks.

California has to know if you had insurance since there is a penalty for the uninsured. Federal return has no penalty. So just tell the California section that you had medical coverage all year if that is the case. Your 1095-B is evidence of that and the form itself doesn’t have to be entered in the return.
