Once you have brought up your state return, you can add the IT-241 by going  Into the New York interview and selecting the Credits page.  Then look for Other Tax Credits, and under that "Other Less Common Credits."

In TurboTax Desktop:

To access the IT-241, please follow the steps below:
  • Click forms on the upper right.
  • Click Open form on the left (see screenshot).
  • Scroll down to New York.
  • Type IT-241 in the search box
  • Click Open at the bottom.

UPDATE: For Form IT-241, on New York State taxes, there is now a "Clean Heating Fuel Credit" entry directly  under the "Other tax credits" section.

Go to your NY State return [State Taxes … NY . . . Edit] then to "Take a look at New York credits and taxes," and scroll down to "Other tax credits."

Go to the NY State return [State Taxes … NY ... Edit] "Take a look at New York credits and taxes,"

You can add the elusive IT-241 by scrolling down to "Other Tax Credits," and under that "Other Less Common Credits."

Click "Update" to get to the "Uncommon Credits" checklist page,

and usually the second box on the list will say "Claim for Clean Heating

Fuel Credit (IT-241)" Check it, hit "Continue" and fill out the form.
