Where do I pay taxes if I work remotely from a different state?

I worked remotely and resided in Georgia in 2023 (and prior); however, I moved to North Carolina in January 2024. Although my paystub reflects my North Carolina address, my company withheld Georgia taxes. FYI - I've asked my employer to update my withholdings to North Carolina taxes for 2025.

For 2024, do I need to file both a Georgia (non-resident) and North Carolina (resident) tax return?

If you moved during the year of 2024, then you will need to file part-year returns for each of the states you lived in.  If you were in only one of those states for all of 2024, then you file a return for the state you LIVE in; and if tax was withheld for the "old" state you will need to prepare and file a NON-resident return for the state you did not live or work in order to get back the tax that was withheld for NC.   When you prepare state returns always prepare the NON-resident state first, then the return for the state you lived in.

Thank you.  Yes, I lived in North Carolina for all of 2024.  I will file the Georgia non-resident return first, and thereafter North Carolina.
