Question

Why can’t I e-file my Oh return? your entered Federal Form W-2 has an invalid state/school district withholding or state wages entry. W2 entries are correct.

Sometimes that happens when the withholding reported in box 17 or 19 is more that the wages reported in box 16 or 18. You can't have more tax withheld than there are wages. You need to review your W-2 entry in TurboTax in the Wages and Income section and make sure it is recorded properly.

Often the wages listed in box 1 will equal the wages listed in box 16. Box 18 is your local wages so they can be different from your state wages reported in box 16, but they can't be more than what is listed in box 19.

If there is a problem with your W-2, you will have to contact your employer and request a corrected W-2 form.

Appreciate the reply. The w2 was imported and all entries are correct and similar to past years. Any other ideas welcome.

If there is any punctuation in the address, this can cause an error (such as ., - /, etc.) or extra spaces.  If you're sure that all entries in Boxes 16-20 make sense, sometimes it's just best to delete an imported W-2 and re-enter it manually.

Here's How to Update or Delete Imported Data.

I am having the same problem.  I cannot efile Ohio.  I have deleted the imported w2 and manually entered the data.  All data is correct and the same as previous years.  Still will not let me efile Ohio

What's in box 20?

Sometimes it's just a matter of it being in a format that TT recognizes, e.g. SD1234 or 1234.  Box 19 cannot be more than box 18

I am also receiving this error message.  W-2s were reentered. They don't have a state/school district withholding amount and the state wages entry is correct.  This must be a TurboTax glitch if we are all having the same problem..... I DON'T want to have to mail in my OH return.

If you have the SD-100 form on your return and shows tax paid from w2, then the w2 needs to show the local tax paid. In contrast if you have a w2 showing local tax, but not the SD-100, it needs to be added. Otherwise, your w2 forms should be going through the review without an issue.

I have no SD-100 forms. paid no SD nor local taxes. Local Boxes 18, 19, 20 are blank as they should be.
And tend to agree this is a Turbi ataxia glitch that needs fix. Of $59 and no not want to mail in my return. In fact I’m not sure I know how to do that anymore.  TT has a few more weeks to fix this.

We all have the same problem and it needs to be addressed. Turbotax cannot list all the advantages of Efiling, receive payment for state efiling, and then ignore the glitch - WHEN WILL THIS BE FIXED OR AT LEAST ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE IS A TURBOTAX ERROR INSTEAD OF BLAMING THE CUSTOMER - I called OHIO and all my information matches what is in their system and I read it to them from the TURBOTAX INPUT SO THERE IS AN ERROR on the TurboTax side -Please at least acknowledge it and do not leave your customers dangling and hoping that everyone will go away and just paper file.
