New York residents who work in New Jersey will file a resident NY return and a nonresident NJ return. Sometimes, your NY and NJ wages will be different, so you will two separate state wages and (possibly) two state tax withholdings.

Remove the NY wages from your NJ return. In the New Jersey section, go to Let's Confirm Your Taxable State Wages. Select Remove These Wages next to NY (keep NJ because this is the NJ return you are working on).
