Why I can’t file my North Carolina return

It said my D-400 will be available to file 1/26/2023 which is today but it’s still not available. Then it said something about me mailing my returns but also said I will have to efile since I’m doing the advance and direct deposit method

Yes. E-filing is required if you are getting a refund advance.

The dates listed in TurboTax are target dates when TurboTax expects forms to be available. If a date is listed, it means TurboTax aims to have the form ready sometime during that day. It does not mean “ready at 12:01 a.m.”

Forms available for North Carolina still shows Thursday, Jan. 26 as the expected date, so try back later.

See North Individual Form Availability for the latest updates.

So when the D-400 forms become available, will I be able to complete my returns online?

Ouch...NC has just posted a notice that they won't be accepting NC tax returns until 3 Feb....whether this means that TTX e-filing will be entirely stopped or not, is unknown...but NC won't be doing anything with them....yet...

So I can’t even file it?

Don't know......IF TTX allows it to be e-filed....it will just sit on their Servers until NC DOR allows submissions to their servers....and once you e-file it, you cannot get it back for any corrections.....

Safer to just wait until after 3 Feb to e-file NC...you may get some more tax forms in the mail you "forgot" about.

________

And even if NC takes your submission from TTX sooner as a test file, they claim they won't do anything with them until 3 Feb.
