The Rent credit is in the Taxes & Credits section of the CA state return.   The credit is either $60 or $120, so you may be looking at a combined federal and state refund/amount due.   View your CA return to see the amount you owe or the amount of your refund.

California offers a credit to renters who fulfill all of these requirements:

    • Paid rent in California for at least half the year
    • Made $52,421 or less (single or married/registered domestic partner filing separately) or $104,842 or less (married/registered domestic partner filing jointly, head of household, or qualified surviving spouse)
    • Didn’t live with someone who can claim them as a dependent
    • Weren’t given a property tax exemption during the tax year

You’ll get $60 if you’re single or married/RDP filing separately or $120 if you’re married/registered domestic partner filing jointly, head of household, or qualified surviving spouse.
