Your state taxes may be applied to the wrong county due to an incorrect address or misclassification on your W-2. TurboTax uses the information you enter on your W-2 and address to determine local taxes. Here are some steps to fix this:
Check Your W-2 Form
Box E: Verify your address in Box E (Employee’s Address).
Box 15-20: Check the state and local tax information in Boxes 15-20 to ensure they reflect the correct state and locality.
Update Information in TurboTax
Log In: Sign in to your TurboTax account.
About Me Tab:
Navigate to the "About Me" tab.
Verify and update your address information if necessary.
Income Tab:
Go to the "Income" tab.
Check your W-2 entries to ensure all information, including state and local taxes, is correct.
State Section: Open the State tab and review the state section of your return and ensure the correct county is selected.
