Witheld UT State Tax Not Applying to Income Tax

I made about 55k last year and am trying to file my taxes. My withheld state taxes (W2 form) has about $2,700 in box 17, but when filing with TurboTax it is concluding that I state taxes are due $2,500. In Utah, income tax is a flat 4.75%. It appears that TT is not applying the withheld state taxes from my W2 to my state income taxes. How can I fix this issue?

Fix the issue by doing two things.  First review your W2 to be sure you have the state withholding correctly entered into the right box.  You have indicated it was in Box 17, which is correct so it's just a double check.

Next, take a quick review of the UT Tax Summary by using the steps below, and reviewing the image.

You can Preview My 1040 (TurboTax Online) or Select Forms  (TurboTax CD/Download)

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. With the Tax Tools menu open, you can then:
    • View your 1040  and UT Tax Summary: Select Tools. Next, select View Tax Summary in the pop-up, then Preview my 1040 in the left menu and UT Tax Summary
    • See the images below.

If it is not applying the withholding properly

....there is one thing to check too.

Edit the W-2, Check  the state employer ID in box 15, and make sure the final three letters of ID number are in lower case !!   wth
