Question

Worked in OR, live in WA

I moved to the state of Washington in January of 2023 and took a hybrid job in Portland, Oregon that same month. I worked in OR three days a week and remote from WA two days. My time was logged according to which state I worked in. We eventually went fully remote in July of 2023 meaning for the majority of 2023 I worked (and lived) in the State of Washington.

I received my W2 and the only state listed is OR. I do not have a second W2 available in ADP. Was this a mistake from my employer (should I have received a second W2) or am I not understanding something?

No, it's not a mistake.  Washington (WA) does not have a state income tax so for this reason only Oregon (OR) state tax withholding would be present on your W-2. You must pay tax on the money you earned when you were physically present in OR.  You do not have to include any money earned while you were physically present in WA doing your work. Keep you records so that you have the backup needed should there be any question later from OR, which is not likely.

Figure out the dollar amount of your wages earned while you worked inside the state of OR and enter only that wage amount in the state wages box for OR.  You do not need a state line for WA.  The good news is that this is the only amount you must pay tax on to OR, the bad news is that WA does not have an income tax so you will not be receiving any credit for taxes paid to OR.

If you complete the W-2 as instructed you should not have to make any adjustments on your OR return, however watch your screens for adjustments for wages and make sure the appropriate amount is indicated.
