Working in Georgia, Live in Alabama

  • Hello, I live in Alabama and commute to Georgia for work. My question is, should my employer be withholding taxes for AL or for GA throughout the year? I would assume AL since that’s where I’m a resident and then file a non resident return at the end of the year to GA for any possible additional taxes owed, but I wanted to make sure.

    That would be correct on your W-2.

    When completing your state tax returns do the Georgia nonresident return before you complete the Alabama return.
