I was told I was getting one amount and I only got $28 for my state I believe it was almost 300 I was supposed to get

If the refund on your tax return was one amount, but you received a different amount, your state refund may have been changed or garnished by the state for outstanding taxes, student loans, child support, or another debt that was approved by your state.

You should receive a letter from the state indicating what was deducted from your refund.
