Does active duty US military get to file for free?

Yes, Online products only for E1-E9 with a W-2 from DFAS.  Includes enlisted active duty and reservists.  Not available for National Guard.   Online products including Free, Deluxe, or Premium.

See the page linked below and the FAQ link there for more info including requirements.  Note that TurboTax Live products (live tax expert help) are not included, nor are some other add-ons.

AND....after you enter your DFAS W-2, there is a page with a whole long list of check boxes.  There is one that must be clicked to indicate it is for Military service.  IF you don't get that box checked, then you don't get the free prep and filing.

DO NOT select any of the Live services offered...those require payment.  (Unless you are willing to pay)
