Question

I lived and worked in TX all year. My reserve military service did not update my taxes information, so I was paying Indiana taxes all year. How can I refund them?

TurboTax does not let me change that portion of income. On the page where I suppose to enter the amount of money I earned in Indiana (and I would enter 0), the box is greyed out.  It assumes since I have Indiana taxes on W2, that this is the income earned there

Change your state wages to $0 on your W-2 Box 16.

To get back to your W-2

  • Type "w-2" in Search in the upper right
  • Select "Jump to W-2"
  • Edit your military reserve W-2
  • Find Box 16 and change to $0

If you are reporting $0 Indiana wages, you may want to file by mail include an explanation about why you are reporting wages that are different from what is on your W-2.

Thank you for your service!
