Question

I'm active military living in VA and resident of NJ. My wife needs to file a VA state return since we're stationed in VA, but Turbo Tax is pulling all my income for VA

FYI:  The MSRRA was amended and signed December 31, 2018 to allow military spouses to simply elect to have the same residence for state and local tax purposes as the servicemember.

If your income is being taxed in VA and it should not be, please make sure that when you first entered your name in TurboTax (My Info) and it asked if you are active duty military, that you clicked "yes" and answered all the military questions. When TurboTax asks your state of residence you should input the state that is your home of record.

Let me know if the problem remains.
