I need help to only adjust my state return, not federal. We paid in last year and should not have as we are active duty military

If you wish to file for refund for taxes withheld by a state follow these steps.

1.  Click "My Info" in the left hand menu

2.  Edit taxpayer information; be sure all military information and questions are answered

3.  Ensure resident state is "Home of record" and indicate "did not live in another state"

4.  Edit spouse information;  resident state should be the same as the taxpayer and indicate "did not live in another state"

5.  Scroll down to "Other State Income" and select the state you need to get the refund from "Yes"

6.  Click "Federal" in the left hand menu

7.  Go to the "Income & Expenses" tab

8.  Enter the W2 information and answer be sure to indicate "Active Duty Military Pay" in the follow on questions for the military W2s

This will generate a resident state return and nonresident state return.
