Question

If I'm in the military and stationed abroad do I still use my home of record?

Yes, your home of record is your home, and you will file a tax return (if required) in that state unless you make a change.

The ability to change your home of record is very limited.  An individual's home of record is a place recorded as the home of the soldier when commissioned, appointed, enlisted, inducted, or ordered on active duty. In most cases, individuals will not be allowed to change their home of record
