National guard IL State Taxes

Son was in IL National Guard for all of 2019.  There were no State taxes were withheld.  How do we report or does he pay state taxes?

    In Illinois, your son gets a tax break for being in the National Guard; military pay is tax-exempt. Please see Illinois Revenue military pay for details.
