My wife and I are both active-duty military.  She is a resident of CA and I am a resident of OH.; currently stationed in HI.  We own rental properties in MO and MD.  Until this year, we have filed out taxed on base and have not filed non-resident state taxes for our rental properties.  Is this a requirement?  If so, how do I filing these claims?

For Maryland nonresidents: you would file for rental property income if your gross income from Maryland sources is greater than $24,400 for MFJ or $12,200 for MFS.  Here is a link to Maryland information.

For Missouri nonresidents:  If MO is not your home of record and you are not stationed in MO you do not need to file.  Look at the chart on page 6 in this link for MO.

In the unlikely scenario that you have to file in MD you would go to "My Info" and scroll down to "Other State Income" and add Maryland as a state you earned income in.
