Retired pay deduction for divorced spouse

I was divorced in 2004.  Court ordered 50 percent of retired military pay to be given to ex-wife. Monthly statements show full gross pay but 1099-R shows only the portion I get as gross pay. Ex-wife receives her portion via direct deposit. How do I claim the half of my gross pay that is deducted and given to my ex?

It sounds like the form 1099-R reports the actual amount of income that you received, after the amount paid to your ex-spouse is deducted. If so, then you can report it as such and you don't need to make additional entries.

If not, then you need to deduct the alimony you paid as such:

    1. In the "Federal" section of TurboTax, find "Deductions and Credits"

    2. Look for "Other Deductions and Credits"

    3. Find "Alimony Paid" and click on "Start"

    4. Work through that section until you find where to enter the recipient's name, social security number, date of divorce and alimony paid
