It depends on what is your spouse’s state of residence.  Even though your spouse may be stationed in Utah, that may not be your spouse’s state of record.  Utah does tax military pay for a Utah resident, as you can read in the following link from Utah’s website: Pub 57, Military Personnel Instructions.  Also, please note this FAQ: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302301

It is possible that you are a Utah resident and your spouse is not.  This FAQ has more information: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4776822.  This is important because if you are a Utah resident and your spouse is not, the Pub 57 reference above states that you may file a Married Filing Separate return in Utah even if you file a Federal joint return with your spouse.  If you had no income, you would not need to file a Utah return if your spouse’s state of record is not Utah.

To ensure that TurboTax properly calculates the correct state tax:

1.       Sign in to TurboTax Online, click take me to my return, then pick up where I left off.

2.       Click on Wages and Income, then Edit on your W-2

3.      Scroll through the screens until Do any of these uncommon situations apply?  Make sure the Active Military Box is checked

Also, if your spouse’s state of record is not Utah, make sure that in the Personal Info tab, in the question “Did you work in another state…?” that you ensure your spouse’s state of record is in the question and answer no to the question (unless you are a Utah resident and worked in Utah)
