this software has a defect when entering info from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service U S Military Retired Pa.  It enters my total retired pay in box 15 and my 1099-R is blank.  It then treats this amount as RMD.  This amount is retired pay and not RMD from my IRA.  Please help fix this !  My phone # [phone number removed] and my email is [email address removed]   Thanks

Your required minimum distribution is the minimum amount you must withdraw from your account each year.  The minimum distribution rules apply to:

    • traditional IRAs
    • SEP IRAs
    • SIMPLE IRAs
    • 401(k) plans
    • 403(b) plans
    • 457(b) plans
    • profit sharing plans
    • other defined contribution plans

Line 15 where?  On the 1040 line 15 is the taxable income.  Your 1099R should be on line 5a and 5b.

Say all of it is the RMD.  If you are 72  it will ask you if it is the RMD.  Say yes.  Anything your pension pays you is considered to be the  RMD.  Traditional pensions automatically fulfill the rules of an RMD.
