Question

Was in military deployment from March-October, but was sent to Fayetteville, NC for the deployment. How does this factor into my taxes?

It doesn't.

For state purposes:

You should file a Resident tax return for your SLR (home of record).  In TurboTax, when going through Personal Info section, be sure to select that you a member of U.S. Armed Forces and select your SLR state in the Tell us the state(s) you live in section. Don't enter NC as other state (unless you had an additional, civilian job in NC).

Note: Your SLR state is considered your resident state as long as you are on active duty. Even if you are stationed in another state, you’re still considered a resident of your SLR state.

For Federal purposes:

Enter your form W-2 from DFAS as usual, be sure to enter it into TurboTax exactly as it appears.
