Question

What do I list as my military status for 2021? I was a member of the Army Reserves for all of 2021 but was deployed which means I was in an active status.

I am in the Reserves but was deployed in August and I am still currently deployed. That would mean my status as of December 31st is active, however it does not give me the option to list both.

Yes, let's see if we can address that for you.

  1. Log into Turbo Tax Online.
  2. Go to Personal Info
  3. In the section where your name, DOB, social security, etc. Be sure to check the box Yes where it asks I am a member or former member of the U.S. Armed Forces (active, reserve or National Guard).
  4. Taxpayer, what was your military status as of December 31, 2021? Mention you are active. You are not both.  Either you are active on Dec 31 or you were in the reserves.
  5. When you indicate you are active, there will be a drop down with three choices. Leave those choices blank because none will pertain to you.
  6. Finish the rest of the section and it the end of the section, it will show that you received the military discount.
  7. Thank you for your services.
