Once i submit my w-2, it asks if the W-2 is related to active duty, which I check..... Then later in the filing process for the state it asks me what/if any amount of income from the federal side of filing.... Am I supposed to fill out both sections or just one or the other. I feel like I am double dipping very badly by filling out both. PLEASE HELP!

I am not sure ifIi understand your question. If i understand correctly, is your state asking you what part of your income is military income? If you just have one W2, then all of that income would be military income.

Now you will report this income in your Home of Record state, which is the state you lived in when you joined the military. It is not the state where you are stationed. if you have civilian income and the state where you are stationed, then that income needs to be reported in the state where you are stationed and this will be considered non-resident income.

Anyhow, hopefully this answered your question.  I was given a limited set of facts and based on the information, I answered this as best as I can.
