Question

Why does my state return say that I am on active duty? I got out of the military in 2019. I verified I have not selected military at any point. How do I correct this?

Please go back to the My Info section to check your entry:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click “My Info” tab in the black bar on the side of your screen.
  3. Click “Edit” next to your name.
  4. Scroll down to the last question in Section 1: “I am a member or former member of the U.S. Armed Forces (active, reserve or National Guard)”
  5. Mark the appropriate radio button and click “Continue”.

I already confirmed that it is not selected. @DanaB27

It depends.

Are you working for the same employer but just not as active duty?  If so, you may need to review your input in the Wage section as well.  After you enter your details from your W-2 form, there is a page titled Let's check for uncommon situations.  Make sure the box titled Active duty military is not checked.

Uncommon situation

There also may be a question that needs to be unselected in the state interview section of the program.  I recommend reviewing your answers in the state interview section as well to ensure nothing is still checked.

If you are still encountering issues after doing the above, please comment with your specific state.
