Cannot view or save return - "We're Having Trouble Printing Your Return"

I always view my return before e-filing but have been getting an error for the past 6 days: "We're Having Trouble Printing Your Return Sorry for the inconvenience, but TurboTax is experiencing a temporary problem printing returns. We're working on the problem and expect to have it fixed shortly. Please try again in a few moments." I'm not actually trying to print but just want to view the actual return.

I called TT support last Friday and they said this is a known issue that they are working on. Then I called again a few days later and they didn't know about any system issue and weren't able to help me get this resolved.

I have tried in 3 different browsers, on two totally different computers. I have tried to save from the Print Center as well as the part of the flow that prompts the user to view the return right before e-filing.

Does anyone know if this is a known issue that I need to wait on, or if there is anything I can do to resolve this? I find it strange that I can't find similar complaints in this forum or on reddit if it is a system-wide issue.

I am having the same issue. It won't print the required paperwork needed for me to mail in.

I found a work around for mine. I looked at the state front page paperwork and it told me what I needed. It had to do with my solar state tax credit. I had to download a form from my state fill it out manually and mail it in. It was a pain. This is the first issue I have had and it’s really irritating. I am sure I am not the only one getting a solar credit this year.

Is there any chance that the issue will be fixed on time? The problems seem to appear after Tubotax takes its payment.

Same problem is still there with printing

"We're Having Trouble Printing Your Return
Sorry for the inconvenience, but TurboTax is experiencing a temporary problem printing returns.

We're working on the problem and expect to have it fixed shortly.

Please try again in a few moments."

Also, this leads to failure in submission.

"Your transmission didn't go through

We could not e-file your return for the following reason:
We had a problem while saving your return for filing. Please try to e-file again and if that fails contact customer service."

While looking into this, the issue appears to be resolved.

Please try to e-file the return once more and if you are still having issues with e-filing and/or printing, please follow the instructions here to contact us by phone so we can better assist you. @taxpayerquestioner

The issue is still there. I will try to reach a specialist. Thank you.

Just encountering this issue today. I wish I used google instead of listening to "clear your cache and cookies" again and again, goodness! Disappointing to see this issue has been out this long and Turbotax has done nothing to fix it. I guess the workaround is the only way. Certainly won't have paid or wasted my time if I knew this is the additional work required of me.

To whoever you may need this.

If you have over 2000 transactions, get yourself a service like Bitcointax.com (https://bitcoin.tax/r/m8LKwe5o). create an account, pay 49.99 and compile all your transactions in smaller csv files. They do have the TurboTax friendly csv that you could just download and load into TurboTax directly. From 3000 transactions down to 10, on bitcointax.com->calculate-> report->options->group by asset -> download csv for TurboTax online.

I hope this helps someone in the future o whoever is having this issue and not spending hours over the phone with TurboTax support, they will just not be helpful to solve this matter. Save yourself some time and unnecessary stress.

Cheers

You are very correct. The major issue is -- Turbo Tax is not even saying that there is an issue with their Crypto CSV interface. That is why many people did not even realize that the issue is coming from crypto transactions. During filing, or printing, Turbo Tax said something like -- there is an issue, it will be fixed soon, if not, contact Turbo Tax. Then, Turbo Tax representatives were not even able to mention that it is a crypto issue.

Thank you for the info on Bitcointax. I did not know that something like this exists.

Hopefully, with these community posts, struggling Turbo Tax users with substantial Crypto transactions will get the information they need.

As many people have mentioned if you are getting the error of "Your transaction didn't go through We could not e-file your return for the following reason: We had a problem while saving your return for filing. Please try to e-file again and if that fails contact customer service."

It is due to the number of crypto transactions you have in Turbo Tax, either by API or  .CSV file upload

My solution that worked was to delete the .CSV file and manually upload a one-line transaction with my total proceeds and total costs basis

The Turbo Tax Specialist told me I didn't have to mail in anything else even though we only put a one line transaction with the total amount, I mentioned If I had to mail in all my detail transactions and she said that was not necessary but on here I am reading to send in the 8949 along with another form within 3 days that my taxes are accepted,

is this something that is necessary for me to do? Will I get an audit if I don't mail in my detailed transactions for crypto and I only have a CSV excel sheet file, Do I just print that and mail it in? how else would they see my detailed transactions?

I am not a tax advisor, just a TT user suffering from the same mess all are talking about in this thread. I will say that please send the additional documents by mail to IRS. Include a letter mentioning that you e-filed via turbo tax and later discovered that IRS might need these supporting documents. Then tender an apology for the inconvenience.

If IRS still needs more documents, they will probably ask for it.

Last year, IRS sent me a letter around end of summer stating that I have to pay additional couple of hundred dollars. I just paid it via the IRS website as soon as I read the letter. Somehow Turbo Tax miscalculated things, or maybe I did not understand some of the questions Turbo Tax asked during my tax preparation. Either way, IRS just asked to pay the additional amount as IRS calculated it; there was no audit or any other complexity.

All I am saying is, I try to pay the correct amount of taxes. I do not have any intention of hiding my income from IRS. So, no worries. If IRS finds errors, they will inform me.  (Probably I am saying a dumb thing but hey, isn’t life already complex enough?)

Again, this was not a tax-related advise. I just mentioned what I would do.

My issue is the same as below and i have been trying for 2 days to file. I was initially informed it was because the system is probably overloaded and to try again later. Consequently i had to apply for an extension. It also stinks because the coin tracker integration was advertised as seamless between cointracker and turbo i am nearly at a spend of $800 and still cant file my taxes. Surely it would help to show an error message which makes it clear as to the problem instead of try again later. Does anyone know if there has been an update as to how to get round the problem.

April 20, 2022

Some users described the work around for this several messages ago. The trick is not to use the integration and enter summative things manually for crypto. Please check the details from the previous posts.

Yes, it is a mess at Turbo Tax’s end. Even Turbo reps do not know about it much. At least these community posts are here so that users can help each other.

The issue is absolutely not fixed. I tried for almost a week to file and I could not e-file or print. Their tech support was absolutely worthless and I ended up using a different company to file (that actually worked with no problems). Now I'm working on getting back my $187 from turdbotax and they don't want to give me back my money. I found this forum after using the other company, but regardless, I think it's absolutely retarded to give money to a company, have the product fail, then send them more money for a different product, jump through a bunch of hoops to get product #2 to work, then hope that somehow you can get your money back for product #1. I'm not going to do that. I just want my money back. I've spent hours now on the phone with these people explaining the situation, just to have the same auto-rejected form sent to my email for me to fill out. When I've asked for a supervisor I get transferred, then they just hang up. I promise I will never use this company ever again. You couldn't pay me to use turdbotax after all this.

That’s probably a new turbotax business trick — hide software weaknesses and errors till their fee is paid. Display errors later right before filing. Awesome business model (sarcasm) .

What other company did you use? That will help turbotax sufferers next year.

April 21, 2022

I used a place called taxact.com. It was about $50 cheaper.

To get back in your return to make changes follow these steps:

  1. Sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page,
  2. scroll down and click on Add a State (You will not really be adding a state). This will take you back in to the 2024 online tax return.
