Hi Hitme,
If you have already filed your return you cannot change your information.  You would have to wait until your return gets accepted or rejected (January 31st is when the IRS opens their efile system).  If your return gets accepted,
you will not be able to make any changes.

If your bank information is incorrect, the bank will reject the deposit and return the funds to the IRS. The IRS will automatically switch you to receiving a check. The IRS will then mail you a check for the refund.

If your return gets rejected, you can then go back through the file interview to make your changes. For the online editions of TurboTax click on File located on the left side of the online program screen.  Go through the interview in File and
you will come to the screen where you can enter the correct bank routing and account information.

I hope that this information helps you out. Thanks for choosing TurboTax and Good Luck, Bea

The IRS is working on creating a portal for you to enter your deposit information.  No word on how long before it is available.

If you are not filing a 2019 tax return and you are not required to file a tax return and you do not receive Social Security benefits, then use this TurboTax website to register for the stimulus - https://turbotax.intuit.com/stimulus-check/

To help everyone check on the status of their payments, the IRS is building a second new tool expected to be available for use by April 17. Get My Payment will provide people with the status of their payment, including the date their payment is scheduled to be deposited into their bank account or mailed to them.

An additional feature on Get My Payment will allow eligible people a chance to provide their bank account information so they can receive their payment more quickly rather than waiting for a paper check. This feature will be unavailable if the Economic Impact Payment has already been scheduled for delivery.

Here is a site to check the status of your stimulus payment and update banking information for that payment through the IRS.

I tried that already. The message I saw was that my COVID-19 stimulus check was sent to my old bank account. Now, I have to wait several weeks or months to receive a paper check in the mailbox.

According to the IRS website, once the deposit has been made, there is no other resource to update another bank account until the tax payer files their taxes during the next tax year and enters the new bank account information then.

The link you mentioned might allow someone who has not yet received the stimulus payment, many weeks later, to enter the IRS website and verify or if necessary, update their bank account information.

how can i change my banking information

April 15, 2020

Once your return has been accepted (or mailed), it's too late to change your bank account for direct deposit. If the info you provided is for a closed or invalid account, the government will just mail you a refund check.

However, if your return gets rejected you can update this information by opening your return and going back to the file section.

If your return hasn't already posted to the IRS's system, you can ask them to stop the direct deposit. You may call them toll-free at 1-800-829-1040, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Please see FAQ (click on see entire answer), for more information about closed/invalid account: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302459

If there was an error with your account number the IRS will mail a check to the address on your tax return.

Please review the IRS FAQ page.
