Received refund from "TPG PRODUCTS SBTPG LLC” today but amount is short by $700

Today I received a direct deposit for my federal refund, but the amount was short by roughly $700. This is after I calculate the amount TurboTax shows they would take on my service order. When I check my filing on the IRS site it shows that I should have received the amount TurboTax has which is not what was deposited. I know there seemed to be issues with this TPG vendor in the past. Anyone else seeing problems with their deposit this year?

My refund was $1300 less than I was supposed to get. What can I do about this.

MY REFUND WAS LESS THAN I EXPECTED

There can be a number of reasons why your refund was less than the amount you expected. First of all, look carefully at your actual tax returns. Next——check the IRS refund site https://www.irs.gov/refunds to see what the IRS says they issued for your refund.  Sometimes the IRS reduces your refund. If the IRS reduced your refund they will send you a letter in several weeks.

There is sometimes confusion about the amount of refund to expect when users misinterpret the “summary” they saw in TurboTax. The amount of your refund is on your tax return.  Federal refund is on line 35a on Form 1040  State tax forms are all different so we cannot tell you what line to look at on your state form.  BUT it is important to actually LOOK at your tax return forms yourself and see the amounts of your tax refunds and/or tax due.  A lot of confusion would be avoided by doing that.

Be aware also that your Federal refund and state refund do NOT come together.  Federal and state tax returns are processed by two completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come first,

It is also possible that your state reduced your refund for debts owed in your state—if the state reduced your state refund you will receive a letter from the state.

Did you choose to have TT fees deducted from your Federal refund?  (Remember that if you did that, you also agreed to an extra refund processing fee of $40 or $45  in CA)

How can I see my TurboTax  fees?

Is the amount sent/issued by the IRS the same as the refund amount shown on your federal tax return Form 1040 Line 35a? - https://www.irs.gov/refunds

If not, then go to this IRS website for information on reduced refunds - https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc203

Are you also receiving a state tax refund? If so, the state refund is sent directly to you based on how you chose to receive the state tax refund, it does not go through the third party processor.
Use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

Have you factored in the TurboTax account fees and the TPG service charge of $40 plus any applicable sales tax?
Review your TurboTax account fees -
Sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on View Order Details

If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the $40 service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the $40 service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.

For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/

Have contacted SBTPG?  Did you Read the above post on this thread?

Did you ever get your money back?

February 27, 2025

We’re short $1800!!! We checked with IRS and they say we don’t owe or have anything to pay back turbo tax also shows the correct amount how does $1800 go missing

February 27, 2025

I'm short $200 and yes i factored in the fees.

Your slogan is: "You'll get audit support, accuracy, and your max refund—100% guaranteed."

That guarantees the arrival of my max refund to me. 100%. Somewhere in that process is an issue that caused me not get my max refund. IDC where or what 3rd party is responsible. That guarantee of yours takes that problem out of my hands. So fix it and give us our money. Your responses are inappropriate and insufficient.

Did you ever received your owed money because I’m missing $2000

February 28, 2025

Yes my refund was short by $4,000. Do I need to contact the police? I didn’t know TurboTax was going to use a 3rd party. This is my first time having problems.

I also received my payment and noticed it's over $3000 short. Has there been an update or issue with the payment processing? Would appreciate clarification on this.

Terbo Tax (TGB) was supposed to charge me $39.00. I was charged $129.00 with no explanation.  I didn't get much back as it is without more being taken out.

If you chose to pay your TurboTax fees out of the Federal refund, there is a $40 service fee ($45 for CA) for that option.   But that still doesn't explain the rest of your fees.  You didn't state what products you used and whether you had any add-ons like a state return, LIVE help, MAX Benefits, etc.  You can check your fees this way:

  • Log in and at the Tax Home, open your return interview back up (but don't make any changes in it since it's already been filed.)
  • Under "Your Tax Returns & Documents" see if there is an Order Details link.
  • If not, then on the Tax Home you may have to look for a link "Add a State" to re-open the interview and then follow the steps below.  That doesn't really add one, but gets you back in.
  • When the interview is open, go to the left menu column and click on TAX TOOLS, then subtab Tools.
  • In the Tools window, click on MY FEES.
