Question

Received refund from "TPG PRODUCTS SBTPG LLC” today but amount is short by $700

Today I received a direct deposit for my federal refund, but the amount was short by roughly $700. This is after I calculate the amount TurboTax shows they would take on my service order. When I check my filing on the IRS site it shows that I should have received the amount TurboTax has which is not what was deposited. I know there seemed to be issues with this TPG vendor in the past. Anyone else seeing problems with their deposit this year?

My refund amount was different than what Turbo Tax return says it should be.  Where are the rest of my funds?  Can someone please reach out to me @[email address removed]

Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.

Is the amount sent/issued by the IRS the same as the refund amount shown on your federal tax return Form 1040 Line 35a? - https://www.irs.gov/refunds

If not, then go to this IRS website for information on reduced refunds - https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc203

Are you also receiving a state tax refund? If so, the state refund is sent directly to you based on how you chose to receive the state tax refund, it does not go through the third party processor.
Use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

Have you factored in the TurboTax account fees and the TPG service charge of $40 plus any applicable sales tax?

If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the $40 service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the $40 service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.

I have factored in the $40 fee that Turbo Tax charges, and I am still short. Will never use this service again, and I will make sure that this word is spread out in several social media channels.

Instead of depositing my refund which is $166 they tried to take it out of my account!!!! Thank God I caught I. I had to put a stop payment otherwise I would have given THEM my refund. I never got a single deposit for my federal and I'm still fighting. So I don't know who this company is but someone's getting a bunch of money somehow. Keep me posted because it's looking like a lawsuit to me.

@josy_uwu      First----check on the IRS refund site to see what the IRS shows as the refund issued to you.   When the IRS reduces your refund, it takes several weeks from the time you receive your refund to the time you receive a letter in the mail from them explaining the change.   But you can sometimes see information on the refund site that will at least tell you if the change came from the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2023 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

If the IRS reduced your refund, then your issue is with the IRS.   If the IRS did not reduce your refund, but the amount you received is less than the IRS says they sent, then your next suspect may be the third party bank that handles refund processing----IF---you chose to pay your TurboTax fees from your refund.

If you're also getting a state refund, it comes separately in another deposit.

What's the refund amount shown on your Federal Form 1040, Line 35a?  Is it $216?   What TurboTax product level did you use?  Did you consider the TT product fees and the extra $40 ($45 in California) service fee for that "pay out of refund" deposit method?  i.e, if your Form 1040, Line 35a amount was $216, were your fees approx $90 plus a $40/45 service fee?

Mine was short too , not sure how to correct it. Any suggestions?

February 5, 2025

If your refund was changed by the IRS then TurboTax won't have any information on that.  You will receive a notification in the mail that will explain any changes that were made to your return or you can check your IRS account to see if there were any changes made to your return here.

If your refund was changed because TurboTax fees were deducted from it those fees were told to you as you checked out at the time.  You can check your fees by using the tools at this link.

If neither of those answers your question you can contact TurboTax support here.
