Turbotax 2024 will not print: STILL NOT SOLVED AT 2/2/25

I've been using Turbotax for at least a decade.  I've got a very simple return that is ready to print.  Turbotax Premier 2024 is not letting me print.  There is no problem with my Canon printer.  I can print from Excel, for example.  My iMac operating system and Turbotax says my Turbotax application is up to date.

Update 1-27-25: By the way, I have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on my machine and I have had a session open during the failed print jobs.

Update 2: 1-27-25: Is there anybody that I can escalate the question to?

Update 3:It looks like there's an [phone number removed] number.  I'll try that on Friday when I get some free time.

Update 4: eight hundred - four hundred forty-six, eight thousand, eight hundred forty-eight.

Update 5: Still NOT SOLVED.  Opened Turbotax.  Checked for program updates.  Print job seems to start normally.  Got a "boop" sound as the print window closed.  Nothing prints to my Canon printer (which prints fine to other programs).  No pdf print file created.  STILL NOT SOLVED.  Will call the 800 number this weekend to try to get help.  Apparently Intuit published defective software.

Update 6: Sunday 2/2/25: Spent an hour on the phone with the Turbotax "Help" Desk.  Determined that they could not help me.  My new best friend Sam assigned an issue number (154 26 40 868)and said he would escalate the issue to "Tier 2".

The cherry on top of the brown smelly sundae was that I almost immediately got an email saying that my case was CLOSED.  So I called back in AGAIN to Turbotax "Help" Desk to confirm that the issue was still open.  Spent another 30 minutes on the phone to confirm that the issue was still open.  Was disconnected.  Spent another 30 minutes on the phone (second try) to confirm that the issue was still open.

Found that TURBOTAX HAD IN FACT CLOSED THE ISSUE.  Asked a Turbotax "Help" Desk person to reopen the issue.  She said she couldn't do it. That only my new best friend Sam could do that.

Still Turbotax 2024 for Mac  will not print.  Vaporware.

I am having the same issue. Everything is updated and I have the full version Acrobat installed, but can only get the program to preview the returns, not print. Clicking the "Print Returns" button shows it's prepping it to print, then it makes a sound and disappears. Restarted system a few times, cleared all the caches and nothing changes.

As of today (2/2), I was able to save my files as a PDF.  (I am using Windows 11 on an HP laptop).  The program was VERY slow in creating the .pdf file. and it still saves the file to the old 2023 folder, but at least it didn't crash!

It took even longer for the print preview screen to come up (more than 2 minutes), but I was eventually able to print the file.

Based on your last update, I won't bother calling the help desk.  I can't believe they don't know it's a problem.  Maybe they close the ticket because they still don't know how to fix their software? Or maybe they're happy with a 2 minute processing time??

I also see that the files have returned to my home screen.  (I rebooted my computer this morning and opened TT again, although I didn't get any updating message.)

Last night (2/1/25) I tried several times to print my returns (federal and state) for preview purposes before e-filing,  Each time, I only got a box that read "completing calculations" with a blue line that should move from left to right, but ends and closes with a double "boop" sound. Nothing is produced. It is a show stopper.

I went back this afternoon (2/2/25) for another try, and got exactly the same result - zero progress.

    Unacceptable.

Yep.  Pretty much my experience.  There is a (complicated 10 step) workaround somewhere in the thread.  If you look, you will find it.

But what is really cute is that on Sunday 2/2, I spent a full hour on the phone with the Turbotax "Help" Desk.  At the end of the hour, my "Help" Desk person (Sam) agreed that there is a problem and assigned an Issue number (154 26 40 868).  Within minutes, I received an email saying that the Issue 154 26 40 868 had been closed.  Of course, the issue was not resolved or fixed.  It was just closed.  I called back and spent another hour on the phone with a second "Help" Desk person who said she couldn't reopen the Issue 154 26 40 868.  Only my new best friend Sam could do that.

I used to have IT responsibility for a mid-sized organization.  One of the ways that IT organizations cheat to improve their statistics is to close "Issues" without actually fixing the problem.

Save to PDF and Print both omit the entire state return. There is a message on the screen that printing the state is not available.

thank you for posting this!  I am having the same dam problem.  I guess I will have to call in too. UGH.  This is going to be fun waste of my time.

    mama miller,

If you want to avoid wasting your time on the phone, take a look at my detailed work-around solution (it's on page 2 of this thread) which may help you print your return without calling TurboTax.  I don't think anybody's had much luck getting the problem fixed by calling TurboTax. Eventually, they'll get their act in gear and fix it on their own time.

    Best of luck!

I have the same problem on my Mac running Mac OS Ventura. Was able to save to pdf & print from that, but also discovered I can’t download my W2 either, and suspect I’ll have the same problem with 1099’s. Intuit tech support is clueless.  Been using T-tax for years but this is it.  I’ll be moving to HR Block’s software next yr.

    February 3, 2025

Come on Intuit. You are losing my business. First I can't do 1099s until the last minute, then I can't print my state return. Please reach for a higher standard of performance. There are other options for next year.

The print button has not been working for me either.

On the Mac, the workaround is as follows:

From the File menu at the top of the screen, click on "Save to PDF".

Same problem but solved by moving from macOS 13 to macOS 15.  The intuit website says turbotax 2024 is compatible with macOS 13 but it appears that the printing function is not compatible.

    Interesting, Olofmc.

I'm macOS 14.7.3 -- Sonoma. I've been putting off upgrading to Sequoia.

TurboTax is supposedly compatible with macOS Sonoma 14 as well. But I did encounter a few weird problems this year.  So maybe it's not fully compatible with macOS 14, either!

    Thanks for posting.

I had the same issue and I kept checking day after day to see I there was an update. I still get the "boop" and nothing happens when I try to save or print.

But I found a workaround and wanted to share to see if it'll work for you.

File -> Preview -> chose your fed/state. This loaded for me as a pdf preview. Then, hover over the bottom center and you'll get the 4 buttons - magnify +/- options, open in adobe, or save/download.

The save/download button did nothing but when I clicked the third icon to open in adobe...it opened! Then from Adobe Acrobat I can click "save as" and finally save it as a pdf.

    February 5, 2025

Yep, danzers136. Your workaround sounds like the same workaround I discovered last week and posted on page 2 of this same thread.

This week, some people are having some luck with the "Save to PDF" option (from the dropdown File menu). Last week, that option did not work for me. It was grayed out. But it works for me today.

It sounds like the "Save to PDF" option from the dropdown File menu didn't work for you, either.

Our results are all so varied!

    February 5, 2025

I tried the “save to pdf” option. But I also got the “boop” sound and it wouldn’t work.

    February 5, 2025

I am having the same problem which also affects the Print Required Forms which I NEED to file by mail.  TurboTax we need this fixed ASAP!

    February 5, 2025

If you can go to macOS 15 sequoia, that can solve this problem.

    February 5, 2025

I will try this out thank you for the tip!

    February 5, 2025

I have the same problem, cannot print my return nor even save as PDF on my Windows 10 Laptop.  I found a time consuming but effective work around by going to the View tab in the upper left of my screen, selecting Forms, selecting a single form, then printing it off via the Print button at the bottom of the window showing the form.  I was able to print off forms that way though it took 7 mouse clicks per form.

Same problemas of February 5, 2024... 2024 TurboTax for Mac. It won't print the returns to my HP OfficeJet Pro 7740. Haven't been able to save to pdfs either.
