Looks like we've run into an error.

TurboTax 2024 Premier worked fine five days ago. I tried to open today and the program will not open. Displays, "Looks like we've run into an error." I uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Nothing seems to work.

    Duplicate

    December 28, 2024

I saw the topic in two different posts. One for an old operating system and the other when importing documents. My problem is different. Same error message, but TurboTax opened and worked fine five days ago. Today I get the error message when I try to open it. Not trying to import documents and Windows 10 is up to date and worked fine with TurboTax five days ago. How is my situation a duplicate? Please direct me to the other responses if they address the same issue. Thank you.

Same issue.  Simply starting the program for the first time.   Anxious to see how it can be resolved.

I figured out my problem. First TurboTax opened and ran fine. Then I installed some new software and could not open TurboTax, even after uninstalling the other software. I restored Windows to a point in time before the other software was installed and when TurboTax worked. Now TurboTax opens and works again. There were two other different posts for the same error, but each of those problems were different than mine. If you just installed TurboTax and the program does not open, my first inclination would be to uninstall and reinstall TurboTax, and to check to see if there are any Windows or other system updates. Good luck and hopefully your problem is resolved soon.

Thanks.  Yeah, first thing I did was uninstall and reinstall.  No help.   I have to wonder if it is a windows update that caused the problem.    I'll look to see what I have for restore points.

I chatted with TTax support.  They refuse to take any responsibility to attempt a fix to work with the new Win 11 Pro 24H2 version.  They are waiting on Microsoft to make some change.  I have little to no hope that this will get fixed during early tax season.   btw this is only an issue with Win 11 PRO. TTax works ok with Win 11 HOME version.   Luckily for me I have a laptop with Win 11 Home that where I can run TTax without error.

Awful support, or lack of engineering skills, from TTax in that they won't even attemt a fix.

I have the same error message running windows 11 home 23h2. Build 22631.4751

Downloaded  and installed the C++redistributable  from Microsoft  and problem is fixed.

This problem came back again.  I did the repair as described, and it seems to be working.   Can Intuit please address this issue?

    January 26, 2025

Mine is still working and Turbo Tax did an update.  Not sure if that helps.

I've been trying to get this to work for 2 hours.  I get it installed "successfully" but when I try to open it I get the error message as above.  Never even got to the point of putting in my license code.  I have tried to repair/reinstall but that didn't work.   I uninstalled, cleaned all my files, hard booted and redownloaded and still getting the error message.  Tried the C++ repair and that didn't work.  Should I uninstall, do the repair and then redownload again???  I am concerned with uninstalling the C++ and then figuring out how to reinstall it as I'm not a computer genius at all and don't want to crash the system.  BTW, I am running Win10 with Norton and Malwarebytes.  So this is not only a Win11 problem.  I have been using TT for probably 15 years or more and never, ever had these kinds of problems with using a CD instead of downloading only.

I had the same issue when I tried to open the program yesterday. I uninstalled and reinstalled, then I called the TurboTax helpline, and spent an hour with an agent troubleshooting. I wound up uninstalling and reinstalling five times, and I still had the same issue.

This morning I found daryls50’s suggestion that Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 was the issue.  I found the program in my apps, and after running repair, TurboTax opens.

    Thank you!

Run a repair of Microsoft C++ It’s one of the programs installed on Office. Then restart your computer…. Good luck!

I had beem dealing with the same issue above. I purchased TT Premier on 1/3/2025 on Amazon. I downloaded the file from Amazon, (Windows). After downloading, I clicked on TT icon on my Dell Windows 10 PC. TurboTax opened and I started a return file, with just personal information, not yet having all my 1099's. My Windows is up date, Chrome is up to date. So when I clicked on the TT icon on 1/28, all TT tax did not open, got the "Looks like we've run into an error" message that other people seem to be having the same problem.

I called Intuit Turbo Tax and reached an agent to help. She said she had never heard of this error before (the message does not give an error code). She had me sign into Glance so she could go into my PC and see from her side what the message said. She said she'd neve seen this before. For over 3 hrs, she had me try everything; we uninstalled TT tax 4 times and each time, the re-install never even asked for the activation/keycode. I asked if she could give me a new download with different activation/key code and she said she had asked the people she'd been talking to and hadn't gotten an ok to do this. At 5 pm, she said the people at TT said they were going to work on the issue in the evening and would call me in the morning.,

I waited until 10:30 a.m. on 1/29, and no call from TT. I finally called again, gave the new agent my case number: 1542202086  (which by the way, I'd gotten an email from TT 1/29 in the morning with case file closed!). She looked at it and then after waiting for 30 min, came back on. She worked with me and wanted me to do some of the same things we'd done the day before. She talked with TT and they said they discovered that the activation/keycode from Amazon was for a MAC computer, not Windows. I said, well, that download is for a PC/MAC and when you download the link, it asks which operating system you have Windows or MAC, there is no other activation code for Windows. She finally gave up after 3+ hrs on the phone and said "call Amazon". Basically TT has not done anthing to help with this issue. I called Amazon and talked to two people, they gave me a full refund of the purchase. So now, I'm fearful of buying TT Premier on Amazon again, not knowing if I'm still have the same problem as with initial purchase.

Feeling like maybe I shouldn't buy TT anymore...I've been a user of TT for my taxes since 1993, but always bought the CD/DVD version. Never used the download before. TT cancelled buying with the CD/DVD, making everything a download.

What TT is causing this year is unbelievable and inexcusable. I'm a long time TT user also. I purchased from Amazon this year. The problem is not with Amazon. I truly think the issue is with C++ working with TT. Might I assume that when TT stopped working for you, an updated had just been applied? Even if things were working I'm hearing TT updates are causing problems with C++. Glad you got your money back. If you want to avoid what could be continual repairs on C++, look for another tax software.

    January 30, 2025

It is definitely not Amazon.  I got mine from a Membership Club and I'm having the same problems.  There is no way they are goig to give my money back since I don't have the receipt for it and I can't print it off their website.  I'm trying to run TT Deluxe Federal + State.

I have done all the repairs to the C++ and installed and uninstalled many times and it still isn't working.  I'm running Win 10 and have had no updates on it lately.  They keep pushing me to upgrade but I don't want to do it until I get this problem fixed so I can get my taxes done first.  I can't beliee that TT is brushing us off like this.  I have been a customer for many, many years......back into the late 80s when we saw an H&R Block person that screwed up our taxes and I had to re-do them.  Had CD-Roms then and I would always get that version until I was pushed into downloading.  Never, ever had this kind of problem until now.

I'm receiving this same error " Looks like we've run into an error. We recommend you revisit the last topic you were working on to make sure all your info's correct" while attempting to enter personal taxes on vehicles.  It will not allow me to enter the numbers, so this is very frustrating as everything else seems to be working fine.  Everything I've entered is correct.

I was on the phone with tech support for 4 hours.  Still cannot access turbo tax.  I repurchased turbo tax per the tech's request and asked for a refund for the prior license.   The refund has been denied.  Absolutely unbelievable!!

The tech was great, but I have some issues with Intuit at the moment.  I will be looking into other tax software in the future.  But for this year I want a refund and my newly purchased software to work!

I have used turbo tax for at least 8 years and this is the worst experience I have ever had.

Yes - me too, then it just closes.

Tried uninstalling and installing again, same result.

Nowhere to contact Intuit to resolve
