After filling out the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property section we get an error on line 1 of form 8911.  On Form 8911 we have a description of the installed charger with the cost of 825. Business use and Section 179 are blank on the worksheet but Line 1 shows 825. in red.

The IRS recently clarified changes to Form 8911 Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit. TurboTax is planning to make updates around this by February 29, 2024.

Please check back then to ensure you are eligible to receive this credit. Thank you for your patience.

I am 33, working since 17, and I've only ever filed my taxes with TurboTax. This is a horrible shame.

I hope this results in a class action lawsuit.

They just updated the date AGAIN to March 5th now! This is ridiculous.

    3/6 as of now.

delay day by day, no progress at all

I don’t want to speak too soon, but I might have a breakthrough here. I Tweeted TurboTax Support about this days ago, and actually just got a DM reply with the following info:

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and for your continued understanding. We have scheduled updates for form 8911 on February 29, and anticipate that you should be able to file in March once these updates are fully implemented. Our commitment to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our service remains unwavering.

I hate to be negative here, but I’ll believe it when I see it. But we can cross our fingers and hope for just a couple more days.

This thread has been very helpful for me. From what I can tell, the tax credit for installing a charger at your home - the purpose of Form 8911 -  is a nonrefundable credit. Since I purchased my EV in 2023, I will be getting the fully refundable credit for that and will not have any other tax liability. So, I think form 8911 won't produce any additional refund. I don't see a reason to wait for it. Is anyone else in this situation and have thoughts about it?

    February 28, 2024

@laurencb I am in the same situation as you. My income is ~90k and getting a full 7.5K EV credit. But I am still able to get ~$400 credit from EV charger installation. I am going to wait.

    February 28, 2024

My EV credit reduced my tax liability to zero. Even though my charger installation could be worth about $300 to me, I can't use it since I have no further taxes that are owed this year.  A nonrefundable tax credit means that once your tax bill has been reduced to zero, any leftover credit is forfeited. The IRS won't refund, or pay out, that remainder to you. I'm in that situation.

I am trying to complete Form 8911 and I am frustrated as well. The form seems to have been pushed to 03/06. Why is TurboTax not resolving it? Also, does anyone know how to get their property GEOID? I am being asked this detail while filling this form.

@pvarun17 CDFI mapping tool is in the IRS instructions for form 8911 (Instructions for Form 8911 (01/2024) | Internal Revenue Service (irs.gov)😞

TurtleTax does not care and does not want our business anymore.

    @Lorem Thank you so much.

    February 28, 2024

Hooray! It finally let me file!

    February 28, 2024

Using TT with form 8911? I don't see it fixed yet.

    February 28, 2024

@wjl22 please go to your form and start again. it will be done!

    February 28, 2024

    Hello all,

I was able to complete Form 8911 just a few minutes ago. I had the error message to file on 03/06 an hour ago but now was able to file my taxes. Finally its over!!!

    Thanks!

    February 29, 2024

@pvarun17 how did you do it? Mine is still stuck.

    February 29, 2024

@harleypan86  For some reason, the view of your screen is different from mine. I filed mine via TurboTax Online and I wonder if it has got to something with it. As in Online applications have the issues fixed while the desktop softwares are still awaiting updates. I am not sure. Are you using a desktop version of the software by any chance? I am seeing a similar trend with other users who were unable to efile as well like those using software on Mac or PC. I don't have a software copy but instead I created an account on turbotax.com and filed it online.

    February 29, 2024

I had my original post on page 6 of this forum. I can also now state that I was also able to e-file with Form 8911 included.

    February 29, 2024

Is anyone using TT Deluxe on a Mac? My return still says it's waiting for the update which should happen by 3/2/24.

    February 29, 2024

I am using TT Premier on PC. I can confirm it will NOT allow me to file. I get to the transmit screen and it states "We Need to Make One More Check" and keeps going through a loop. The only option that will allow you to proceed is to "Change Filing Method"

The date for the update states by 03/06/2024

So here is where it stands for the record in 2024 for future searches: Form 8911 was released by the IRS on January 19, 2024 (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/treasury-irs-issue-guidance-on-the-qualified-alternative-fuel-vehicle-refueling-property-credit). Intuit then kept moving goal posts making broken promises for Form 8911 on 2/21, 2/22, 2/28, 2/29, 3/1, 3/2, 3/6, 3/7, and finally released today 2/29. The tax form availability status page (https://form-status.app.intuit.com/tax-forms-availability/formsavailability?albRedirect=true&product=Turbotax_Windows&bu=cg) was incorrect the entire time showing ready for print and e-file for all products.

Those filing with form 8911, be sure you meet requirements and your installation location is in an eligible census tract:

    https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/alternative-fuel-vehicle-refueling-property-credit

Due to TurtleTax's feet dragging and broken promises with moving target dates, I think it is better to assume they did not build any logic into verifying the census tract GEOID or your Address (or Latitude/Longitude) for eligibility and they maybe placing that responsibility on the filer to rush form 8911 out the door due to us complainers, I mean customers.

Has this been corrected yet? Your website does a poor job letting us know.

    February 29, 2024

@buddy30 it's resolved! Go go go!!!
