After filling out the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property section we get an error on line 1 of form 8911.  On Form 8911 we have a description of the installed charger with the cost of 825. Business use and Section 179 are blank on the worksheet but Line 1 shows 825. in red.

The IRS recently clarified changes to Form 8911 Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit. TurboTax is planning to make updates around this by February 29, 2024.

Please check back then to ensure you are eligible to receive this credit. Thank you for your patience.

Logged in around noon my local time and was presented with a "NEW" date pushed back to 03/02/2024. Based on this thread's growing feedback of inconvenience and displeasure with TT continuously rolling back the published resolution date, I have waning faith of this being resolved by the now 03/02/2024 stated claim. TT should be incentivizing all TT customers affected for their incompetence to resolve this matter in a timely fashion after deceptively collecting a consumer's money, and not informing the consumer of blocking them from filing prior to payment. TT at the very least should offer 50% discount for filing next year in 2025 for the 2024 tax year since they are collecting interest on the money their consumers have paid them just to find out they are blocked from filing at the very end of the process, with Form 8911 being the blocking mechanism.

Im requesti g a refund. Fed up with TT and their service.

I have been using the Paid desktop version of TurboTax since 2005! Nearly 20 years. This mess was the last straw for me. Yesterday I filed my taxes with one of the listed IRS "trusted partners". Federal was free, State was $14.99 - and no shenanigans at the end like charging extra for e-file like TurboTax does. Numbers came out identical. Form 8911 worked fine and my Federal has already been accepted. The IRS updated this form a month ago. There is zero excuse for a company as big as Intuit to keep delaying this. I've requested a refund for the TurboTax software.

Let's all stop using TurboxTax next year. This is beyond frustration and they should not stay in this business if they are so incompetent like they are now. We as customer deserve better.

First, TurboTax said that they were "planning to make updates around this" Form 8911 error "by 02/21/2024".  Then TurboTax changed the date to "02/29/2024"

Then the date was changed to "03/01/2024"

Now, tonight, the date is "03/03/2024"

Why can't TurboTax post the update???  I don't know if I can claim this credit or not.

I called TT today and spoke to someone (Diane L - WSOL  Product Specialist) in their resolutions department.  To prove how clueless their team is, she pointed me to a draft of form 8911 on the IRS website dated Feb 5, to which I corrected her that the final version (also live on the IRS website) was posted Feb 13.  After going absolutely nowhere with her, I hung up and called back, then spoke to someone else (Gloria G), who acknowledged the final form, but apparently it isn't good for e-signing. From what she saw on her end, the estimated e-file date is still Feb 29, which doesn't align with the 3/4 date we see online. I'm giving them to the end of this week, then bailing on TurboTax completely.  This is embarrassing, and makes me question TurboTax's integrity altogether.

This delay has completely put me off TT forever. They're the most expensive, will not refund the $210 I already paid, and they can't get it together to get this done?? Unacceptable on so many levels.

I've been using TT for decades, but this will be the last time. I completed my taxes nearly a month ago because my identity has been stolen and I need to file before someone else does. DO BETTER.

So incredibly annoyed with Turbo Tax this year because of this. I was ready to file at the end of January but had to wait weeks because the clean vehicle credit wasn't ready. Then that became ready and now I am waiting on the 8911 form. I have wasted so much time checking to see if it is ready and every time I check they just keep pushing back the date. Even more annoying is that Turbo Tax made me pay for the service already.. Worst Turbo Tax experience I have had in the decade I have been using them.

Well, I gave up. I deleted the EV charger credit and form 8911, re-filed and the return was accepted. I'll file an amended return later claiming the credit.

I tried this last week and the return was rejected for problems related to form 5695 (I have a 2022 carry forward solar installation credit). Those needing form 5695 were going through the same fiasco as us but eventually it resolved late last week. I also looked at going to HR Block, but after reading the 2023 product 1 star reviews on Amazon, it seems their product and customer service is as bad or even worse that TT.

As a retired software engineer/software engineering manager at a large high tech company, I am STUNNED at how poorly Intuit-Turbo Tax is handling this. Both from an engineering process and a customer service standpoint.

Next year? All my solar/EV credits will be resolved, so maybe FreeTaxUSA - Deluxe?

Same here, deleted 8911 and e-filed. Will file an amended return after TT gets its act together

    February 26, 2024

Now it says it will be ready on March 4th! But doesn't the cost to file go up on the 29th? Total BS. It won't let me file until this is sorted out... so we should certainly get an exception for the later filing cost if we literally can't file yet.

@kjanderson2 If you have already paid the TurboTax account fees for the online account the increase on March 1 does not apply.

    February 26, 2024

I gave up and submitted without my charger on it.  At this point it's hard to say when TT will get their stuff together.  I really have no desire to amend my taxes, but I guess that's what I'll be doing.  This was my first year using TT, I won't make that mistake again.

    February 26, 2024

Please use Taxact or any other online tax software to submit and not wait. I made this mistake and was waiting until today and went ahead with the former. IRS accepted my return and now i can wait to get my refund. What a pain with Turbo tax, I have requested a refund and that is another ball with them as its online and not through customer care.

    February 26, 2024

You were able to get it to process the 8911 on TaxAct?

    February 26, 2024

I just tried to file my taxes, and I'm new to this error. It appears that a lot of you are in the same boat. According to the DOE, I'm in the eligible area, but TT won't accept my return and they say check back 3/4, which I see is a moving goalpost according to all of the posts here. I guess I'll wait a week or two instead of filing an amendment.

    Frustrating!

    February 26, 2024

It does now say the 4th, which is a Monday. TT only updates the system on Wednesday night/ Thursdsy AM...so I fully expect this form to say March 7th sometime soon.

If I hadn't already paid these scammers, I would be running to a competitor.

    February 26, 2024

This could be a work-around in order to submit your Taxes..... but input a "zero" in any pink cell of the Error'd 8911 form above Line 1 that pops up.  Then hit "continue" below the form, and it will take you to Submitting your Taxes.   I'm still reviewing my taxes so I haven't submitted yet, but it brought me to just before submitting.

Maybe someone can try this out?  I can't promise this will completely work but it got me much further than just stopping at the 8911 error.   But, You can only do this once because if you were to save your forms and go back into TT, it gives you that error again.  I have checked the 8911 form on the IRS website and the one on TT and they're both the same, its not a complicated form.  Anyone brave enough to try?  Let me know...

    February 27, 2024

It says 3/05 now. This is ridiculous

    February 27, 2024

Mine still displays 3/4. Still ridiculous. Unacceptable. Intuit TurboTax, you disappointed your customers.

    February 27, 2024

This shouldn't be marked as solved until the issue is actually resolved.

The ETA keeps incrementing by 1 each day, giving little confidence this is going to be addressed.
