@Moparfans  This post is about TurboTax Live Chat not about CA tax extension.

@Anthonycrocker22 If you already e-filed and the return was accepted, and then another W-2----   or another kind of tax document arrives, you will have to amend.   You cannot amend until late in February when the Form 1040X becomes available.

@kayessell This is not live chat.    The user forum is like a message board.  You need to post a complete and specific question and then wait for a reply.

Hi, I use TurboTax every year but in the past years, I’ve bought the home & business edition because I receive a difficulty of care payment from the state. Can I do that if I buy the deluxe federal & state edition?

thank you

Rebecca

You can enter difficulty of care payments using TurboTax Deluxe.

After you enter your Form W-2 you will select "continue".  The next screen you will get is "Let's Check for Uncommon Situations." ‌You can scroll down and select the box "Nontaxable Medicaid waiver payments that qualify as difficulty of care payments".

It will look like this:

Hello I am needing help, I am separated and need to file my taxes, it requires my wife info I don't have it not acces to it

How can I file

January 31, 2025

Filing Married-Filing-Separately does require your spouse's social security number.

If you have checked your TurboTax account as well as all your prior year tax returns then the only way to file is to enter all of the information about your spouse and nine zeros as their social security number.

Then you do your tax es just as you would otherwise.  When you come to the end you will have to print and mail the tax return to the IRS instead of e-filing.  That will significantly delay any refund that you may receive.  But it will get the return filed.

@Mrblack1 When did you file your 2021 tax return?  Did you e-file it back in 2022?    Or did you file it by mail at some later time?    What does it say in your account for 2021?   Does it say "accepted?"  Or does it say something else--like "rejected," "printed," or "ready to mail?"    If it does not say accepted, it was not e-filed successfully.

If you realize now that your 2021 return was not e-filed successfully, then you will need to file it by mail.  E-filing is permanently closed for past year returns.  You will need to print the return, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in.    Get it mailed before April 15, 2025 or you will forfeit your refund.
