DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

intuit turbotax has made poor decisions in the past that have been reversed, because customers would not stand for it. Discontinuing the  CD version of turbo tax will not be tolerated by many customers and it will cost turbotax more than they plan on saving. I am asking turbotax to reverse this poorly thought out decision to discontinue the CD version and only offering downloads. I personally will not purchase a download and I am sure  they lose many current and future customers, because of this decision.

Your opinion is noted, the company has already made a decision, and I suspect it is too late to master CDs and get them into stores even if there was a massive wave of complaints.

In case you didn't know, the downloaded program is the exact same software as the CD version.  The downloadable version is not crippled or different in any way. (The online-only version is very different, of course, but that's not what we are talking about.)  The CD is just a delivery system.  And, because the CD is mastered before the tax forms are finalized, even if you buy a CD, you always have to do one or more full downloads to update the software before you can file.  So the only thing that is changing is the method of putting that first, unfinished copy on your computer.

We also believe (but have not 100% confirmed) that Turbotax boxes will still be sold in stores, like Staples, Costco, and Target.  The box will contain a code for a pre-paid download, rather than a physical CD, but you will still be able to use sales, coupons or other discounts in-store.

No.  It's the exact same program.  The CD also is a download.  The CD downloads the program.  Now a link downloads the program.  There is nothing really on the CD.  You also always download the updates or the states you need.

My 2023 Turbotax CD, which supposedly has "nothing on it but a link to Turbotax. com" actually has 479 mb of data  on it.  Wow, thats a lot of data for a disk thats only purpose is to provide a link to Turbotax.com to download the tax program. Wonder if there could be additional support programs or updates required by some users' computers that is not already on their computer, (or maybe a basic version of the program itself)? Please explain.

well then you are going to either have to use an online version or use a pro. Others are also no longer offering a CD for 2024

Mike says all you whiny CD customers can take a hike. intuit does not care.

Ok Great advice Mike. hiking we shell go.

    September 25, 2024

I have always had to download th Mac version of the software, whether I bought a "box "from Staples, Target or another source.

    September 25, 2024

Do not discontinue cd. I will not buy the diwnload

    September 25, 2024

you do realize that all updates which are required come via download.  what's the difference? It may be true that other app providers are also discontinuing CDs.  There are many online apps available.

    December 11, 2024

You do realize you are losing customers due to the lack of CD's.  As for your its all a download even with the CD you are wrong.  I can load the CD without being connected to the internet  I can even load the previous years info without the internet.   Once my internet does come up turbotax use to tell me it wants to go find updates to the software.

Furhter if the CD was just a link to the download there would be no reason not to produce CD's as soon as the 2024 software was loaded to its commercial space (I.E. the link is available).  So once again you are not being honest with your customer base.

How can we trust you with our taxes when we can not trust you to be honest about your corporate profit based decision logic?   WELL! Mike?

I am highly disappointed with the decision as well. I am disgusted with the current system in place and wish to do it like past years. As a long time user of TT, I am not questioning my loyalty and I am in search of other vendors.

@cashpenny  Why do you need the CD?

For 2024 they are only selling the download, no CDs. And if you have a Mac you need Ventura  13 Or newer

    https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/tta-system-requirements/

Even if you bought the CD before you could use the download method to install it.  I always bought the CD from Costco.  But last year for 2023 I bought the download from Costco online.  Installed it real fast. It was the same as the CD.  Most of the laptops and computers now don't have a CD drive.  And I had to get a new laptop with Windows 10 to run Turbo Tax starting for 2022.

The confusion is that the Online version is NOT the Download program.    The Download program is EXACTLY the same Desktop program as the CD.  You buy it the same way directly from Turbo Tax or in stores like Costco.   When you installed the CD you still had to go online to update it.   It's only the method you use to install it.    Even when I bought the CD I used the download method to install it.

Your point is understood and obvious.  Wanting the CD in hand and on our shelf is our point.

I really like the option to purchase Turbo Tax on CD as if computer has a hard drive failure and I need  to replace it, I can just load the CD and move on.

I have been purchasing the CD for Years!

Just burn the download file to a CD?

No question.  I have used the Turbo and CD copies of the program each year.  I tried online version and there was too much room for error and losing info.  And not saving the work properly for when you return.  The CD version provides more control in following the trek through the whole program.

Thanks for raising the topic and concern.

    I see the posts.

I appreciate there are others who value the CD version. But I hear you all about how CD functions with Download of updates,  vs. Online version.  I think that's what I understand.

Bottom line - I don't like too much change.   And I like having the CD disc just in case.  That's all I know.

If you check everyone is going to Download so even if you found a CD for 2024 from another company then by 2025 it will be Download.  It is the times.

My concern is with CD I could install in my laptop also to work on stuff on the road. So will I be able to download to multiple devices at no additional cost?

Also will I still get 5 free Federal filings

When my computer crashed, I bought a new computer with Windows 11.  According to TT is not supported by Windows 11. Past comments on his forum indicate this has been an ongoing issue. I would like to get ahold of a cd with the TT 2023 tax program to see if it will accept it. I bought and downloaded the previous 2023 tax program from Intuit/Turbo Tax. How can I get the 2023 cd, and how much would it cost me?

Where did you see Turbo Tax is not supported on Windows 11.  System Requirements

    https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/product-system-requirements/minimum-system-requirements-turbotax-windows/L8ZSsGqF1_US_en_US

For getting the CD, see if any stores still have them or Amazon etc.  I think Turbo Tax only sells the download for prior years.  And you can buy any version.  All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.

I happen to see Turbo Tax 2023 CD is sold at Ebay.  You would need to search the specific program you need.  (I use Home & Business)   For Deluxe I saw for $20+.   Home and Business had a broad range.  And all state they are  New.

    Best.

Guess I'm moving on after 40 plus years, guess when all user financial information gets hacked then you'll learn

and definitely become obsolete. You're taken choice away from consumer, not that expensive to produce a CD

    and distribute.

@Q102   You can still use the Desktop program.  It is just delivered by download instead of CD.  Your info will still stay only on your own computer.    Even if you bought the CD before you could use the download method to install it. I always bought the CD from Costco. But last year for 2023 I bought the download from Costco online. Installed it real fast. It was the same as the CD.
