DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

intuit turbotax has made poor decisions in the past that have been reversed, because customers would not stand for it. Discontinuing the  CD version of turbo tax will not be tolerated by many customers and it will cost turbotax more than they plan on saving. I am asking turbotax to reverse this poorly thought out decision to discontinue the CD version and only offering downloads. I personally will not purchase a download and I am sure  they lose many current and future customers, because of this decision.

I agree with others. I've researched and there is no other company that offers CDs. I also agree that the TurboTax CDs have done NOTHING more than launch a small downloader app that pulled the full software package down for installation. I've been using download only versions of TurboTax since tax year 2017. I just verified that I can download ALL versions now.

I can download EVERY single piece of software on my computer, anytime I want without issue. I know. I've had a disk failure and had to rebuild my computer. I also had a bad software I was experimenting with cause problems causing me to rebuild my computer. Downloads are always up to date at the time of download.

CDs containing the full app take much longer to install because you install outdated software only to have to run laborious updates. Additionally, there is always that PESKY CD that loves to fail at the most inopportune time of installation. Thankfully, over time, companies were switching to allowing the option to also download.

The only benefit (kind of) to having CDs is installing software without an internet (or very slow) connection. But at some point, you really want to update things and the sheer amount of download that WILL occur to update your apps will negate the benefit of having the CDs. Might as well download the program from the beginning.

The solution to no internet or very slow internet is?  yeah nothing.  Intuit jsut screwed over million of rural people.

I am a 79 year old woman trying to keep up with all of this technology and am upset that you are changing the game. You get use to one thing and I tried downloading once and could not do it so please change your mind for all of the elderly that have grown accustom  to filing this way. I hope a million people or more send in compliants. Any response would be appreciated.

@mchuber44 Once you used the CD to install the beta version of TurboTax, after the initial installation there are at least 25 updates or more to the software for the tax year, which are ALL downloaded to your computer.

If you have a problem downloading the software you purchase there is always TurboTax support to assist you along with all the members of this forum.

Why?  The download is installed on your personal computer, just like the CD.

I realized that all this time, I've been saying it wrong.

The argument is NOT that the download version is identical to the CD version.

The argument is that the CD version IS THE DOWNLOAD version.

The CD version does NOTHING more than activate downloading of the download version.

That is ALL the CD version does... Activate a downloader of the DOWNLOAD version. Nothing more.
    Ergo, they are IDENTICAL.
They have been for many years.

The decision to remove the option for a CD has already been made.  There are no other tax preparation software companies providing a CD.

If you want to use tax preparation software you will need to either download the software and install the software on a personal computer or use the online web-based editions.

Obviously, there are a lot of long-time TurboTax Customers that are dissatisfied with the deep-sixing of the CD option with which they have grown comfortable. It may appear to these loyal customers that this take-it-or-leave-it change is being jammed down their throats. All of the cheerleading witnessed here has not been convincing to many of the skeptics, particularly to those who may have previously tried the on-line product with a resulting bad experience (like myself). Why would Intuit want to drive this important part of its customer base away from its TurboTax product?  A basic business school marketing 101 solution is available. Why not simply allay the loyal skeptics by offering a refund of the cost if the former CD customer is NOT satisfied with the perceived new product? I think the vast majority of the CD product fans would agree with this approach.

I have been using Turbo Tax since it was on 3 1/2 Disks, which I still have. I am also against the idea of not getting a CD mailed to me. Considering the $$ Intuit makes, this is a bad idea on there part.

I have also only ever purchased the disc version.  I get that no matter when you purchase it, a download of some sort will have to run (even if it's only to update how a form gets printed because the IRS changed something small).  I don't have a problem with that idea.  I've never purchased the "download only" version from a store, so I don't know what comes in the (otherwise) empty bit of prettily colored cardboard you pull off the shelf.  However, in the cardboard container with the CD in it, the activation code is printed inside.  While I'm sure you will say in the download only world you will receive it when you buy on-line, and you can write it down, or you'll get an e-mail with it.  The problem is a) with my handwriting, if I need it later, I may not be able to read it (seriously), b) if it's provided via e-mail, it could be manipulated (not that I would).  Given how companies are on the defensive (sadly, rightfully so), if I have a problem and they have an opening to claim that I fudged something, they will and I'll be out of luck.  But, if I have the material they printed, with the code on it, then what can they argue?  I understand it's an obscure thought, very low probability, etc., but my lack of hair tells me to be careful, to protect myself.  A "hard copy" - CD in a sleeve, with the activation code preprinted inside, is the "best" protection.  Now, if an activation code is still printed inside the carboard on the shelf on a "download only" version, well so much for my argument.  But, does Amazon ship the cardboard if you order on-line?  I suspect not.  So, the decision to go away from CD is pissing of customers, and even if they accept their fate, they may be forced to make the purchase from someone other than their preferred vendor, further pissing them off.  The old business saying was "a happy customer tells one person, an unhappy customer tells 10".  With online reviews, that unhappy customer has a chance to influence a lot more than 10 customers.  Why do you think so many business get in trouble for having people ghost write good reviews - to counter the real bad reviews.  Just bring the CDs back.  Keep ALL your customers happy.  They can't be THAT expensive.
