I tried in May 2020, after tries just about everything, including installed a new version,Technical support said could be due to servers are down on COVID-19 (Yeah ??) - "call back in late June maybe servers are up then..."

Tried again today 6/21/2020-  Same error on activation - error code 630

What's is going on Intuit - can you advise on how to get this running so I can file tax - its due in 7/15/2020 !

if there is a fix - please provide steps.

If you receive an error code that says, "The license code you entered is not valid. Error code: XXX", it means the code you're entering is either not valid for that product or is no longer active. Check that you're entering the code exactly as it appears on your CD insert or copy and paste it directly from your Downloads.

If you receive a error code with a message saying, “All available activations for that code have been used,” that means your code has already been used the maximum number of times, and therefore can’t be used to install the software on another computer. TurboTax can be installed on up to five computers using the same license code.

If you receive either one of these errors, wait a few minutes and re-enter your license code:

  • Sorry, we're experiencing a problem on our end. Please try again later. Error code: 620
  • There was an error with validating your license code, please try again later. Error code: 630

See this FAQ for issues with your error code 630. Be sure to read the entire FAQ as it has information on how to contact us at the very bottom if your issue remains unresolved.

This FAQ is completely useless and you support has no idea how to resolve this issue

Please fix this issue. What a [Profanity Removed]. Makes me rethink turbotax entirely.

I bought CD, installed, entered code -- it worked. Threw away case because I thought I was done with entering code. Weeks later I tried to finish taxes -- after it auto-upgraded. and got this error.  I called and got another code and download, everything fine.  Then tried again a week later, it auto-upgraded and got same problem, can't get past activation screen. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling. Finally tried on different windows 10 machine (that didn't have turbo tax installed already) and it worked.  Seems that install only works once on fresh machine, but auto-upgrade messes it up.  Will hurry up and do taxes now before it happens again!!!!

There was an error with validating your license code, please try again. Error code: 630

I'm having the same problem as everyone else.  I bought TT direct from Intuit via download back in February.  Used for several weeks.  Came back today and re-opened it - it had a number of updates to install which is understandable but after launching the freshly updated version, I got stuck at the activation screen.  Talked to Tech support twice, got new Activation Code, disabled firewalls, updated Windows, etc.,  Finally, I tried installing on my wife's identical laptop and the activation code was accepted.  I've compared versions and configurations and can't find any meaningful difference between these two machines.

I've used TT for just about as long as it's been around and this is the first time I've hit a hard wall like this.  I'm assuming that Tech Support has reported this to engineering and they are working on a fix.  Would sure be nice if someone from TT would just tell us that (assuming its true).  If its not true, TT has a big problem that they are not addressing.

I'm completely stuck and out of ideas.

I've been a loyal TT customer for over 15 years.

I'm getting this same dreaded error code. I've read the worthless FAQ's, uninstalled/reinstalled, and spent hours on the phone with TT. You are about to lose me. Fix this glitch!

If you receive a error code with a message saying, “All available activations for that code have been used,” that means your code has already been used the maximum number of times, and therefore can’t be used to install the software on another computer.

This most commonly occurs when the software has been purchased from an unauthorized 3rd party reseller. What these illegal resellers do is sell the same code 5 times. So if one of the first 4 buyers uses the code twice to install it on another computer, that 5th buyer is just flat out of luck. That's why it's best to purchase from an authorized reseller, if you don't purchase it directly from Turbotax. To often I see the "cheaper alternative" turn out to be the most expensive option.

That is garbage. I bought a cellophane wrapped TT box at Sam's club and it happened to me. Worked fine for a week then TT forced me to take an update and it broke. Even new codes given to me by support would not work. your developers are terrible. I cant believe this is not fixed yet.

After trying many of the steps outlined in the other posts with no success, the TT support person (AnneMarie) had me manually delete all of the prior installations with the following instructions.  It appears that an auto uninstall does not remove a problem file to allow you to do a new installation like the install on new machines that has worked for other people.   Make sure that you antivirus and firewall are turned off as well (but restart them as soon as you are done with the installation).

Forcefully uninstall and reinstall TurboTax

Sometimes, uninstalling TurboTax via the usual methoddoesn't completely remove the program.

In those instances, you can forcefully uninstall TurboTax to ensure all TurboTax files are removed.

Solution
  1. Browse to the following location on your hard drive: C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Intuit/TurboTax/TY19/PER/MSI (replace XXwith the 2-digit tax year of the TurboTax program you want to uninstall, for example 18 represents TurboTax 2018).
  2. Right-click each file in this folder and select Uninstall.
  3. Delete the following directories (where XX is the 2-digit tax year of the program you've just uninstalled):
    • For Windows 10/ 8 / 7 / Vista 64-Bit
      • C:/Program Filesx86/Common Files/Intuit/TurboTax/TYXX
      • C:/Program Filesx86/TurboTaxTYXX
      • C:/Users/[Your username/]AppData/Roaming/Intuit/TurboTax/TYXX
      • C:/Program/Data/Intuit/TurboTax/TYXX
    • For Windows 10/ 8 / 7 / Vista 32-Bit
      • C:/Program Files/Common Files/Intuit/TurboTax/TYXX
      • C:/Program Files/TurboTax/TYXX
      • C:/Users/[Your username]/AppData/Roaming/Intuit/TurboTax/TYXX
      • C:/Program/Data/Intuit/TurboTax/TYXX
    • For Windows XP
      • C:/Program Files/Common Files/Intuit/TurboTax/TYXX
      • C:/Program Files/TurboTax/[version] /20XX – replace [version] with Basic, Deluxe, etc.
      • C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Intuit/TurboTax/TYXX
      • C:/Documents and Settings/[Your username]/Application Data/Intuit/TurboTax/TYXX
  4. When finished, restart your computer, and then install TurboTax.

A bunch of calls to TT and no avail.  Tried this and it was the only method that worked.  Thanks for posting!

Here is my story... I installed TurboTax Deluxe 2019 in May, entered by license code and it worked.  I started my taxes without issue.  Then I started TurboTax Deluxe 2019 in July.  It updated and asked me for my license code again.  I reentered the same license code and got the dreaded Error 630.  I tried to uninstall, reinstall and it didn't work.  But finally, through another useful forum post, I tried a series of steps and think this is what worked for me:

I solved the problem this way:

I uninstalled TurboTax 2019 (via Control Panel -> Programs -> Uninstall)

I opened File Explorer:  I went to c:\users\myname

I went to the View menu and deselected "Hidden Items" (so that I could see the AppData subdirectory)

I went to C:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax

I renamed TY19 to TYXX

I rebooted

I reinstalled TurboTax 2019 Deluxe

I entered the licence code and it worked.

Maybe I didn't have to uninstalled and reinstall TurboTax.  I suggest you just try to rename the C:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax\TY19 directory first and see if that works.

If so, please post for all the other unhappy and frustrated TurboTax 2019 users!

@Terry-Holl

Holy Crow!  Terry, you are my hero!  It worked and I didn't even have to uninstall / install.  Simply did you TT22 to TTxx folder name change.

I have been trying to solve this on my Windows 11 laptop for a month.  Many hours with TT specialists that have no clue how to fix it.  They tried giving me a new download with new activation code multiple times.  They didn't work.   They tried to make me use their online TT.  No way!  They have had data breaches before.  I spent good money to have a windows download.  I also spent many hours surfing online for answers and trying many.  Yours is the first that worked for me!!

Thank you kind sir!

I'm pleased to hear that my solution from a few years ago still works.  It looks like TurboTax has not fixed whatever the error is in this directory:

C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax subdirectory

so it must be renamed before you try to open TurboTax again.

January 8, 2021

I finally resolved this problem on my MAC by following the uninstall and reinstall guidance at the following web page:

     https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/installing/help/remove-uninstall-turbotax-for-mac/00/26050

This guidance removes all traces of older versions of TurboTax from the library directories on your computer. I found files from every version of the software going back to 2012 when I purchased my last MAC.

Prior to entering the activation code, I also disabled my virus protection software and the firewalls on my computer and DSL modem.

I think my solution from a few years ago still works.  It looks like TurboTax has not fixed whatever the error is in the C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax subdirectory, so the directory must be renamed (or possibly deleted?) before you try to open TurboTax again.

To recap, here is the solution (on an Windows 10 or Windows 11 system):

Step 1: Open File Explorer and go to: c:\users\<your-user-name>

Step 2: Select the View menu and check "Hidden Items" (so that you can see the AppData subdirectory)

Step 3: Go to  C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax

Step 4: Rename the TY19, or TY20 or TY21 or TY22 directory to TYXX

Step 5: Open TurboTax again

Hope it is that easy.

Best wishes,

Terry

if a cx is getting error code 630 do these steps and it will fix the issue,

Step 1: Open File Explorer and go to: c:\users\<your-user-name>

Step 2: Select the View menu and check "Hidden Items" (so that you can see the AppData subdirectory)

Step 3: Go to  C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax

step 4: if you can't find appdata, type run in the search bar, then type %appdata% and it will take you to step 3 of roaming.

Step 4: Rename the TY18 or whatever the last numbers are just put a 20 in front of TY, so rename to TY2022 or the current year.

Step 5: Open TurboTax again

Any idea how I would do the same on a Mac

Every year, we bought TT from Costco since they have $20 discount in January... But this year, software has bug and wouldn't let me validate my license code. When I try to reach someone, Intuit asks for additional payment...

Bought TT 2022 Home & Business on Costco website. Received link with activation code through email within 1 hour. I used the link to download the application, no problem. But when I tried to Activate TT, problem started! "There was an error with validating your license code, please try again. Error code: 630" it reads...

Below are steps I already took... I don't know what to do...

1. Restarted the laptop and re-entered 16 digit codes. Still got error code 630.

2. Checked my internet and cleared cookies. Still got error code 630.

3. Deleted the desktop application, re-downloaded the application and re-entered 16 digit codes. Still got error code 630. Deleted the desktop application.

4. Reached out to Costco online help, returned the TT and got a refund. Went to Costco warehouse. Paid $95.99 and got a physical TT 2022 Home & Business (orange one). BTW, I lost my $20 discount from January...

5. Downloaded the application per instructions and when I try to activate TT. Still received same error code 630

@HeatherPLO

i called the [phone number removed] and [phone number removed] multiple times. Each time, I was on a hold for more than 15 minutes!
I am not sure what I am supposed to do at this point… It is funny and frustrating problem cause I paid $95.99 already… I am the customer who paid… yet when I try to dial the number, it says I have to pay additional $29.99 to speak with someone…

Please someone at Technical Support email me…

Add me to the list of users getting the same error.  I tried @billygeee suggestion but it didn't work for me either.  And unfortunately, I wasn't as lucky as others that had success on a different computer.  My download on a second computer returned the same results. I hate to waste time with customer support, but I need a resolution.

I can't believe that Intuit Turbotax has not fixed this issue with their software yet. Their support is clueless, which therefore includes the whole Intuit corporation. I will not be buying Turbo Tax for the 2023 year and will be going with H&R Block. It makes one wonder if Intuit Turbo Tax can't fix this issue which has been going on for years, how accurate are the taxes one does using their product?

When I ran into this problem, one must delete all indications of turbo tax including any hidden files in their Users, AppData, Roaming. You must remove all previous years, so make sure you back up your taxes on a thumb drive or another external drive. After doing this, reload Turbo Tax and It will create a new folder in Roaming, Intuit Turbo tax and hopefully let one use there license code to set up the program. Once set up, you can open you saved file from the external hard drive or thumb drive. Again, good luck and screw Intuit Turbo tax from not getting this issue fixed. Terrible company with terrible support. All support is contacted out and we users never get to speak to anyone with any actual knowledge of this problem. I sure bet the corporate execs get a nice bonus, but they have a very crappy product!!

I've concluded that Intuit has simply stopped verifying the 2020 product.   I bought another copy of deluxe to see if there was something wrong with my computer.   Installed it on another laptop -- still same error.

I bought another copy of 2020 Premiere to see if maybe that would work.  Still same error.  I'm out so much money -- oh well.  Lesson learned.
