IRS Claims my former employer didn't report my wages but I have my W2 and I spoke with my previous employer who says she sent everything in. I never had an issue before.

IRS took all 60 days to review my account and never once contacted me. I finally called on the 60th day and they said they don't have any record of my wages from my old employer, only the 3k I made in the end of the year with my new employer. I told them I had the W2 to prove it but the IRS agent said that wasn't good enough, the employer needed to confirm my wages. The IRS agent sent a referral and said it would take another 60 days! I filed Feb.1st, it is now May 15th, I can't wait any longer. I called my previous employer and she swears she sent my info in. I didn't have any problems last year and I am the only employee experiencing this problem. Sounds like there was an error on the IRS side. I don't know what to do at this point. Any thoughts?

Ok ...the IRS will now ask the employer for the records hence the 60 day extension.   So ask the employer to respond to the IRS when contacted even if she did file the W-2 & W-3 & 1096 timely.  If she did NOT do it electronically then the paper forms had to be entered manually and when humans are involved mistakes can be made.    I had a client with this situation last year where only their W-2 form had an IRS issue  out of 8 total employees and the employer mailed in the forms .... bottom line it took 8 months for the employer & IRS to get this corrected.

What you could do ? First  talk to the employer.  Talk to the IRS and see where the employer can send the supporting docs in advance of being contacted.

Same issue. Called IRS and they are verifying my income because I'm on a 60 day review. They have not received my w2 from my employer.

As suggested in the answers above, you're pretty much at the IRS' mercy as far as getting your refund.  You can still continue to check the status of your return on the IRS' Where's My Refund?  website.

Another option that was touched on briefly above is contacting the IRS’s Taxpayer Advocate office.  They may or may not be able to help you – there are restrictions – but it’s an option worth looking at if you’re experiencing financial difficulties.

Please see the IRS’s Local Taxpayer Advocate page for more information.

If you filed your taxes correctly and did not lie I would say DO NOT WORRY. I received a 90 day letter from the IRS because one of my employers supposedly did not report my wages. I called my employer they resent my info to the IRS. Literally 18 days after receiving my 90 day letter, my status online was updated with an expected refund date.

One year later I'm in the exact same situation.. how long did it take to get worked out? And did you ever find out what the problem was?

As suggested above by Critter, you should contact the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Office:

At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your IRS Taxpayer Advocate.

http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-a-Local-Taxpayer-Advocate

If you are unsuccessful with the Taxpayer Advocate for your area, you can also try the special IRS phone number for the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 877-777-4778.

I am also in the same boat. The irs sent me a letter saying my refund is being reviewed( I filed Jan 28th)  but didn't give a specific reason. I got laid off two weeks ago, as I was filing for unemployment I noticed the employer hasn't sent in any wages since ive worked for the company.I am struggling to pay my morgage/bills, raise my kids and live like most Americans.I was counting on my refund and have never had an issue since I started working 14 years ago. I also filed with turbo tax. I would like to know what to do and where to start?

The first thing you should do is contact the employer and ask them if they submitted the W-2 to the Social Security Administration.

Then, make an appointment with your local IRS office and bring a copy of your W-2 and tax return and tell them what happened and what steps they or you can take to correct the situation.

I also use turbo tax and i am dealing with the same exact thing.! This is crazy! I know my employers reported my wages. The guys i work with had already gotten their tax return and we have been working together for the last 2 years. The IRS is saying that two of my employer's did not report my earnings. But when I talk to them they said that they sent it in. I have three kids and I'm about to lose my home over this. To top it off everything with this coronavirus going on.

Have you checked your W-2 from your employer to verify that your social security number on your W-2 is your social security number?  If not that is why the IRS does not a have a record of your income.  If this is the case your employer will have to issue a corrected W-2. You may want to consider filing IRS Form 4852 - W-2 Substitute Form unfortunately the IRS does not allow e-filing of Form 4852, a paper return must be mailed to the IRS.

I have verified my social on my w2 is correct. I just recieved my state refund, but still no word on my federal refund. It still says my return is still being processed and a date will be given when a available. I faxed a letter head from my company w/ all my info on it, my last check stub from 2019, and my w2 from 2019, along with verification of hardship to the taxpayer advocates 2 weeks ago.

If you are stuck and not getting any satisfaction from the IRS, I will repeat the answer from Critter from above (because we at TurboTax have no influence over this situation - it's between the IRS and your employer):

If it's been more than 90 days since the return was accepted  then you can ask for help from the Tax Payer Advocate office:

At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your IRS Taxpayer Advocate.

http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-a-Local-Taxpayer-Advocate

If you are unsuccessful with the Taxpayer Advocate for your area, you can also try the special IRS phone number for the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 877-777-4778.

I am dealing with this problem. Only thing is that I am not so sure my previous employer actually sent out my documents as they said they did.. I remember when I worked for them errors happening with the IRS etc.. Now my garnished wages are somehow lost... IDK.. IRS is also a douche.. they took forever to tell me the reason why my return was being placed on hold.. Why couldn't they just tell me the truth from the get go?? they took forever that they had 60 days.. I submitted my return in Jan, Feb ended which was not normal for me and then March - COVID-19 happened! more delay! I kept calling once a month cause they **bleep** at you that you don't need to do anything and just wait until they ask you to do something SMH.. so now I am about to experience a hardship and now JULY they tell me well did you have two employers cause we only see one... I'm like yeah I did have two!.. like MF** you take this long to actually tell me what was wrong in the first place!,.. and I'm assuming they still have not contacted my previous employer either SMH and my previous employer just states that they submitted along with everyone elses... sigh

I filed my taxes electronically through turbo tax, and I am having the same issue. And my employer also claims My wages where reported. And i am the only one employee having issues.

October 13, 2020

respond to the notice with a letter saying here is a copy of the w-2 i got from my employer    xxxx   ein xx-xxxxxxx

can't say whether that they filed with Social Security.  you need to investigate them.

enclose a copy of the w-2.

mail ASAP since there is a time limit for responding. use a service where you get proof of mailing and delivery.

This same thing is happening to me too... I filed my 2019 return February 1 2020 and I am still waiting for my previous employer to actually send in the 2019 w2 he gave me so that my return can be processed... and it's Mid March 2021 now 🤦‍♀️ in my situation I know that my previous employer had a lot of issues with the irs and owes for several years... I'm currently trying to get in touch with a tax advocate to figure out if he has actually sent in anything and if what sent sends in doesn't match what I reported ill have to file an amended return 🤬 I'm a single of of two small children and really need the money last year and need it even more so now... I haven't received my stimulus checks either... the one time I was able to get through to the IRS I was told my IRS account has a freeze on it because of this mess... and of course this particular previous employer will not take my calls or respond to emails or the letter I sent him... and apparently he's not sent in whatever the IRS needs to process my return either.

Hi, I hope this helps. I called my previous employer and sent emails that the IRS had not received what he claimed "he sent". He was very convincing over the phone that he submit all the proper documents with everyone else's but because I was no longer working there I think he forgot or something and didn't want to admit it. Anyways I filed 1/31/20 and when the pandemic happened it held and held back. When I finally got through the IRS cause they NEVER told me or explained to me what was my delay only that an amount showing on my return does not match. What they did tell me was to go to the social security website where you can see all the previous jobs you've worked under your social and that's how I found out my previous employer had not submitted my docs. My current job was there but not my previous tax info. Anyways I didn't get my return until almost October. So I advise you to send your previous boss or your current boss emails that the docs have not been received by the IRS and you can't do anything about they have to do this. It is your employers responsibility. I hope you get through. Good luck

You can check your IRS tax account to see what was reported by your employer.

You can also contact the IRS to tell them that your employer has not sent you a W-2, and this will ensure that you are showing due diligence in attempting to file your tax return timely and correctly.  Here is the link

I am going through this identical load of non sense. The IRS is claiming my employer did not report my income. I work for the county I live in and HR def reported my income. I have my W2 and paychecks stubs for 4 years to prove my income. However, the IRS told me they  have 10 weeks before they even have to issue a letter to myself or my employer. My income is not showing up in Social Security either??? I am perplexed. I feel like this information was deleted accidently or intentionally because they are overwhelmed??? Someone please tell me how to resolve this issue. I faxed my w2 and paystubs with cover letter to IRS. I ALSO sent  911 form with same info to a Tax Advocate... no response from either. Help not knowing is the worst.
