Why is ItsDeductible being discontinued? People really depend on it and you're going to dump everyone October 2022?? Please don't do this, please keep ItsDeductible going.

Hi all,

As some of you may have heard, ItsDeductible will be staying!

We heard your valuable feedback and we are happy to announce that we have revised our decision and will continue to support ItsDeductible next year.  Customers' accounts and the data in them will continue to be available without interruption.  You could take a look at our updated article here

Thank you,

MINT is a valid option given ... since fewer folks have been itemizing the cost to keep up the FREE  service is not worth it as the amount of users have dwindled ... mint is a viable alternative so check it out.

I agree with @Critter-3; try Mint. You can sign up at the link below.

Well Champ:  Have you really looked at MINT?  good luck in getting what you truly want for your itemized deductions from this - it's nothing more than a trap.  Hey, and BTW, keep up with your spreadsheets - wow, now that is outdated.

So given there is no email support, how do we tell Turbotax that their timeline for sunsetting Its Deductible is not fair to the consumer? Will they read the message boards?

1.) They opened 2022 for use without notifying anyone in 2021 that we can't use it the whole year 2022.

2.) Surprised us all with an end date of October 2022, yet we can still input to that date. Makes no sense.

3.) This was clearly an executive decision who probably doesn't even use the product. (and I'm sure that exec has someone else do their taxes for them. )

4.) To be fair, since TT wants to end Its Deductible, they should allow users to use it for the remainder of 2022, and then allow access through April 15th, 2023 (Fed tax date). That'll give users enough time to finish what they started in 2022, and hopefully find a better solution than Mint for itemized donations.

5.) Open up new capabilities in Mint which allow for easy itemization of items, and not just monetary.

6.) Sorry but I don't have time to spend hours in the thrift store, looking at price lists or on ebay looking at prices on shoes and clothes, to make sure I have the right $ value.

I pay for Turbotax already, so I'd like to continue using a sister product for my itemized "item" donations.

I keep my own handwritten lists/pics/tax receipts backup. I like using Its Deductible for keeping track of the $dollar amount that I can put on taxes.

The October 17, 2022 date is most likely to accommodate those who filed extensions for the 2021 tax year.

I have used ItsDeductible since 2007 and am astounded at this irresponsible, abrupt cessation of services with no warning.  Unethical is an understatement.

Intuit should at least support the software until the end of the 2022 tax year and then end services.  I have already entered over twenty donations for 2022 and now cannot import them to TurboTax.

Why October 17th?  You could just as well terminate on December 31st and support importation for the 2022 tax year.

One of the reasons I use Turbotax is how well it works with ItsDeductible.

If you need to charge for an alternative product, do so, but such a product is needed.

They had to put a stop date so they will support until the end of the 2021 efiling season.  So if they kept it running until the end of 2022 then would they also be required to support it thru 10/15/2023 ... so this could be extended forever using this kind of logic.   The company had decided to stop support on this FREE TOOL due to lack of usage and the cost to keep it running.  Intuit is a for profit company and cannot have parts of the company drain the profits of the other sections.  This was not a malicious action but purely a business transaction.

Critter3 - I understand making business decisions, but - this "Free" tool, in my book was provided for my Paid (and not cheaply) annual TurboTax product.   The fact they didn't integrate the valuation lookup within the software is a moot point (and a pain as well - but definitely worth the effort in that you NEED that information).  I don't see this as taking away something that was offered as free - I see it as cutting that TurboTax function - and adding substantial burden to my filing of my taxes, via TurboTax (if in fact I stay with them - this changes the game for me).   The 2021 Tax SW was glitchy already, and not all forms were ready for the tax year filing.

I use Itsdeductible yearly.  I've never had any problems and have been pleased with the product.

Why not offer this program with a fee? Has this even been floated as an idea?  I wonder if others share this feeling as well?

June 7, 2022

I for one would pay a nominal fee for this as part of the Intuit Turbotax suite. I've been very happy using it for longer than I can remember.

June 6, 2022

Did Turbotax consider this will make it easier for people to jump to other tax software? One reason why I used Turbotax was Itsdeductible and the ability to transfer. May give TT a second thought when comes time to buy for next year.....

June 6, 2022

I'm bummed, but I can live with keeping a list another way.  This program was just so much easier than trying to keep track of everything offline and enter it manually at tax filing time.

Now if they would just have an export to CSV or Excel option, I would at least be able to get all of my 2022 activity into a usable format for tracking till the end of the year.

Sigh...

June 6, 2022

Absolutely a CSV or Excel format option for archiving files AND file names starting with the year not type donation.

Now one gets a filename Items 2018 so that all the years item files are grouped instead of all the files from one year.

I agree with most other posters here in that the business decision might make sense for Intuit but the timing is quite frankly poor. Why enable the functionality for 2022 and then let customers know in JUNE that the service will be discontinued in OCTOBER? I understand it is indeed a free tool BUT I bet it has brought Intuit a fair amount of new customers into their ecosystem and paid services. Unfortunately this is just another nail in the Intuit coffin, which for me started with making a complete mess of Quicken before pawning it off to someone else. Now itsdeductible will be gone, which just leaves me with TurboTax itself. Without the integration points, it might be time to consider other options in the tax preparation space as well. It is a FREE market after all. AND NO Mint is not an option for me as I'm not interested in connecting my accounts nor do I want to be bombarded with ads.

June 6, 2022

I agree that Mint is a bad idea.  I've worked in financial risk/fraud for years and would never use an aggregator like Mint. I also use Quicken, but never use Express Web Connect, which aggregates account info at Quicken.

However, I believe that Intuit selling Quicken to a separate company turned out to be an improvement. Upgrades to Quicken have been done much more regularly and seem targeted toward both adding features and fixing bugs since the transition. And, although the subscription model initially felt "wrong", it does provide an affordable income stream to Quicken, allowing some income stability from their users.

I, too, am disappointed, as there is no real alternative to ItsDeductible's functionality, especially for loading charitable giving into TurboTax. If anyone finds a REAL alternative that can do the same for the several dozens of charitable donations I do every year, my effort to file taxes just got much larger.

Quicken can do that for donations of money, stock or mileage, but not for donated goods

I believe Mint can also do the same (no import as of yet, though).

June 6, 2022

I do not see Mint as a viable option and do not intend to use it.  I always organize, keep a handwritten list of each trip to a charity and attach the tax receipt but they never assess a value, leaving it up to us.   I used ItsDeductible because it would provide 'approved' values for items.  That 1) eliminated the guesswork and 2) In my mind, reduced the potential of problems if I were ever to be audited since I was not assigning random values. In addition, there values were actually higher than I would have assessed. As far as I know, no other product does the same thing.  And ItsDeductible can be entered, edited and printed easily. In addition, it allows for easy integration and upload while I am in the process of doing my TurboTax taxes. One of the reasons that I have hesitated to jump ship to another tax software over the past several years.  Please reconsider.

Leave it to a Mom to speak sense. Are you listening yet TTax?

June 6, 2022

TurboTax gets more frustrating and less user friendly every year now. ItsDeductible is one of its best assets. It figures that this year I will be donating the most ever due to moving, and now I have to do it all manually! Very unhappy about this change because it is a very good tool.

The email I got said, "Today the tool is used by only a limited number of our customers and no longer meets the level of user experience we strive to provide, so we’ve decided to discontinue it." So clearly they don't mind losing "a limited number of our customers."

In addition, if it "no longer meets the level of user experience we strive to provide," then why aren't they offering an alternative? As others have stated, apparently Mint doesn't do what ItsDeductible does!

Finally, I went into ItsDeductible to export my donation information for 2021 and 2020, and there is no data! I know I used it both years.

June 6, 2022

Is it ironic that the email just came out after this thread gained some traction? I got the email at 2:47pm EST.

I think most are in agreement that cutting ItsDeductible is a business decision, but to end it mid-year is just crappy customer service. Folks have already started using it for 2022, and like someone said there's not option except to pdf your data. So to transfer everything to excel... will take a lot of time.

If TT does actually read this thread, please reconsider extending the deadline a few months or give us a better option!
