Why is ItsDeductible being discontinued? People really depend on it and you're going to dump everyone October 2022?? Please don't do this, please keep ItsDeductible going.

Hi all,

As some of you may have heard, ItsDeductible will be staying!

We heard your valuable feedback and we are happy to announce that we have revised our decision and will continue to support ItsDeductible next year.  Customers' accounts and the data in them will continue to be available without interruption.  You could take a look at our updated article here

Thank you,

Please don't discontinue this application.  I use it every year and it's part of my record keeping.  I'd even pay a fee to be able to continue to track my donations with It's Deductible and to be able to export them into Turbo Tax.  Please reconsider.

Discontinuing itsdeductible in the middle of a tax year is a real disservice to its long-time customers like me.  You should have either discontinued it in the tax year 2021 or at the end of the tax year 2022 and not when half the year is up.  Now I have to fumble around finding another approach and figure out how to extract all of the tax deducible information I have already loaded for the tax year 2022.

Please extend the discontinuation of itsdeductible to the end of this tax year.  It is the only fair thing to do.

Sincerely, Richard Hunt--a TurboTax user for over 35 years.

@rtjhunt  - I wonder if TT is in fact making itsdeductible available 'until the end of the tax year'...... the discontinue date is Oct 17 and the 2021 extension deadline is Oct 15...... so while they could have done a better job of communicating, sounds like they are covering the 2021 tax year and not the 2022 tax year.

Hello,  I have loaded almost a half year of my charity donations under the 2022 tab.  They should have either canceled this at the end of 2021 or 2022 and not in the middle of the tax year as they are proposing to do.  Now I have to futz around figuring out an alternative approach.

The reason it's being discontinued is not because enough people didn't use, but because they did a bad job implementing / marketing it.  It's a useful tool and Intuit is dumb for discontinuing it.  But then again, they're not a top tier tech firm so no talent.

I am very disappointed by this move. I understand it is a 'free' service, but yet that service provided stickiness/loyalty to stay with TurboTax as a feature. Now, I will consider filing taxes with software other than Intuit.

June 7, 2022

This is the stupidest decision I have ever seen from a software company

why the hell even keep it through Oct 17 if its not going to be able to be used for a 2022 return??

At least keep it functional through 12-31 and enable  import into the 2022 returns

I have been growing more and more disappointed by all Intuit products (I use Quickbooks, Quicken and Turbotax) and you about to lose my business over this idiotic decision

June 7, 2022

I think Intuit sold Quicken and I hope the new owners don’t drop it too.

This decision is frustrating as I have used turbotax since the DOS days and Its Deductible since it first came out.  My wife and I use it to keep track of donations, especially non-cash donated items and the automatic valuation and import into turbotax made this an easy process at tax time.  I do not accept that only a few users are using Its Deductible given the responses in this forum.  I would be willing to pay a subscription fee to keep the service.  I am asking also that if Intuit does in fact decide to shut it down this year that they post the source code for Its Deductible so that a third party can take over the application.  I am sure there are many entrepreneur software developers who would take this on.

Shocked and disappointed as well.  Been using ItDeductible for years and we give thousands each year in clothing and other items to Goodwill.  Just called their support and they had no suggestions and told me it was not being built into their software either like HR Block as done with Deduction Pro.  I would also be willing to pay an additional fee for this feature as well.  #SAVEITSDEDUCTIBLE

Great Idea! I'm sure a startup would snatch it up.

"post the source code for Its Deductible so that a third party can take over the application."

Someone mentioned DeductionPro with HR Block, is that a viable alternative, or do you still have to input values by yourself? Does it maybe save your most common donated items, so you only have to input once i.e t-shirts, shoes, books?

HR Block - if you're listening, you've got a serious opportunity here to snatch up a bunch of TT customers...if you update your DeductionPro software.

Thank you for the Salvation Army list.  Goodwill has a list too.  Very disappointed in Turbo Tax discontinuing Its deductible; they could have implemented this at the end of this year for 2022 taxes.  It's truly a disservice to loyal customers and the timing just sucks! If few people use this tool, then blame it on TT's marketing.  TT certainly spent a lot of advertising money saying people could file free using TT, which turned out to be not true because TT is being sued because of the deception.  This has been all over the news.  Maybe all their effort is going into fighting the law suits instead of encouraging people to use its deductible.  Very disappoint in TT.  I'll probably move over to HR Block or use the IRS free filing tool.  HR Block has the Deduction Pro.  I have always bragged about TT to encourage friends to use it, but not anymore, unless they reinstate its deductible, at least to the end of the year of 2022 for the filing of 2022 taxes.

I have been very dependent on Its Deductible to record donations, both cash and non cash, as well as stock.  It was a valuable resource and I appreciated the ease of importing data to my return..  can’t believe they are discontinuing it midway into tax year.  This will certainly affect my decision about utilizing a new tax program rather than turbo tax. I was happy to be able to do my own taxes, but not sure Turbo Tax is worth it anymore.

Intuit, please do not discontinue ItsDeductible.  I also use Mint and it does not have the item donation functionality.  While it can summarize money donations, it does not import them into TurboTax.

So far this thread has had close to 2,000 views.

Fans of ItsDeductible who have been posting in the thread no doubt have noticed there are no responses from TurboTax in this thread since the "powers that be" at TurboTax do not tend to read the user community forum except for a few seasonal employees who help answer user questions during taxfiling season from January to April.

If you want to try to get a response from Intuit, here's how to provide feedback directly to Intuit corporate office about your displeasure with their cancellation of ItsDeductible.    It may not change their mind about discontinuing ItsDeductible, but it will at least let them know how people feel about it.

If you wish to do so, you can go to the page below. Just below the page's main header tabs, you'll see a screen-wide blue banner that prominently says:

"Do you have a question, concern, or feedback about an Intuit product or service?"

There is a "Send an email" link.  It goes to a designated person in the office of the president of Intuit, and they supposedly will assign it to the right team for review.

NOTE:  Do NOT send any sensitive personal data since that is regular email--not secure email.

Mesquitebean, Great idea, everyone should do that before they take the banner down.

Send a link to the thread, so we're not reinventing the wheel.

So, so disappointed with this decision. Every year at tax time I find the app so useful. I'd even pay a small fee to use it.

June 11, 2022

I'm with you there!  Like you, I'd be more than willing to pay (even Intuit's inflated prices) for continued use of the program ... and I wouldn't even need Intuit's online access and data storage.

Wondering how long before an enterprising lawyer will file a class action law suit to obtain relief (injunctive or monetary) for all of the "It's Deductible" users who have been suckered into buying/using "TurboTax" just for the convenience of having "It's Deductible" available.
