Question

No CD available for tax year 2024

I want to express my discontent that Turbo Tax has eliminated the ability to get a CD.   I like to keep the software in case I need to change computers.

I realize the download is the same program and updates need be done as tax rules are not always completely defined, often until well after the new tax year begins.

I have used Turbo Tax since it began.  I really hate to change at this point but I am extremely disappointed.   I am willing to pay extra for the CD.    It is a preference.

I totally agree that NO CD for 2024 Sucks! I've also used turbo tax for years. I'm going to check out other software before I use them again.

A CD is available for an additional $10 after you purchase the download and have the license code.

See this TurboTax website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/

that would be awesome BUT 16 code can't be found. I did instructions but they do not work and 1-800 line is only automated right now. I'll try tomorrow.

I agree wholeheartdly. I always like a cd also in case i change computers. I am a retired coporate tax employee and a CPA. I have used this for many years, however, may also consider changing this year. Turbtax has always marched to their own drummer withour regard to the user. I cannot even file electronically because you cannot attach certain elections or notices, therefore its more convenient to send in a physical return. I have discussed this and other operating issues with them numerous times over the years to no avail. It always amazed me that if I open up turbotax even after the tax year is closed it requires you to update!!?

I am not certin why unless they are always behind on updates. If this is true many could have filed an incomplete or inaccurate return.

@fkallbeejrgmail   If you change computers you can just download it again.  Since you now have to log into an Intuit Account when you first install it, all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac) you can download it again.

Access your downloads here

Here is my Intuit Account with 2023 that I bought from Costco last  year.

I am very disappointed in your product since you made the decision to NOT provide a CD.  I am 77. Change is hard for elderly and I like to file away the CD.  I don't see any reduction in my cost even though I feel you are providing an inferior product.  After being a loyal customer for many years, if I find a company that has reliable product that provides a CD, I will no longer be a loyal customer of Turbo Tax.

Me too!

The problems are even bigger than no longer offering a CD.  A customer can no longer even buy a key-code product at a retail store. The only option is purchasing a membership to a warehouse outlet or opening an online account at a retailer to download. And on top of all that, another hefty price increase on the heels of the prior two years' increases. The combination of all these decisions is without question going to have negative repurcussions, and any notion of reversing things in the future will be futile once customers have moved on to another product/manufacturer.

Well done Intuit.

Are you aware that the other tax software companies have discontinued CD's too?

No CD means that I'll never use TurboTax again. The last thing I need is for my income data to reside in the cloud on one of Intuit's non-secure servers. With a CD, my data only lives on my super-secure hard drive on my computer.

@martidub You are misunderstanding how the technology works.   Downloading the software for desktop software does not mean that your tax return is stored online.   With the desktop software, your return will still be stored ONLY on your own hard drive or any backup device you use like a flash drive.

@xmasbaby0  If that's true, then I should be able to disconnect my ethernet cable (after download) and have the software still work. Yes/No?

I also have used the attack since it began and not having a CD available is extremely disappointing. I saved them in case I ever have to pull up that tax return again for the IRS. You are eliminating a lot of back up. Consider changing and make that available.

If you've purchased your 2024 software license code and want a CD for installation, you can purchase one here.

Me too!  I want the CD!  I have the CD's for the last 10 years and I have had to reload them when my computer crashed and when I bought a new computer.  I have gone into some CD's to get info that I could not be there on a download.  That is why I changed from other brands.

Purchase the 2024 TurboTax software as a download then you will get the license code.

With the license code you can purchase a CD for $10 here - https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/

I am disappointed that no disc is available as well.

Looking at options other than turbotax after using this product for many years.

I have the same problem!  I have had my computer crash and had to reload from the CD.  It seems like the IRS wanted some info a few years ago and I had to reload from the CD to do it.  I keep all of my CD's for the last 20 years and had to reload a few times. And I bought another computer and installed from the CD to that.  I don't know if you can do that with a download.  I want a CD.
