Why has my return not been processed yet, it has been almost 72 hours and it still is not accepted or rejected by the irs at all. I have never had this issue before.

It is not unusual for your return to stay in pending status for several days sometimes longer depending on the back log of returns filed and time it takes for the IRS to process them. Keep checking the IRS Where’s My Refund? site for updates. The tool is updated daily (usually in the overnight hours) so you don’t need to check more often. Please see the TurboTax FAQ What does "Pending" mean? for additional information.

Except it IS an uncommon situation. Both representatives I spoke with on the phone yesterday said it was. The IRS has not even gotten my efile. It is stuck in limbo and nobody can tell me where my return is.
Did you get an email saying your return was on hold?
Do any of these situations apply to you?
You've used TurboTax in the past and are using a different account this year. This can including moving from our Desktop product to our Online product.
You changed your filing status from last year, and for that reason, are filing with a different TurboTax account this year.
You've created multiple TurboTax accounts this year or in prior years.
There could be a couple or reasons why you might be experiencing a delay;
1. First, the status might be pending for security reasons. This may be a sign that someone is trying to use your identity to file a tax return. The return has been placed on hold to give you an opportunity to cancel it if it doesn't belong to you. This can take up to 72 hours, after which your return will then be forwarded to the IRS, or if applicable, rejected. If rejected, you can then correct the rejection issue and resubmit. Please see this FAQ for reference.
2. Secondly, there could be a delay if your return has various refundable credits, such as the Earned Income Credit.
Note: Both instances may be applicable. That is, you could have a hold for security reasons first. And additionally for verification of the refundable credits in your return. In this case, delays might extend beyond 72 hours.

Experts from TurboTax spent two hours yesterday looking through my submission and neither of your responses are what is holding it up.
So these recorded replies that you respond with are really useless. The issue has nothing to do with the return or refund it has everything to do with how you submitted it to the IRS. I will never use your company again.
Same with me. I filed 1/27 and irs is saying they have not received mine. This same thing happened last years with TurboTax and I didn’t get my refund for 5 months
I am also having the same issue. I filed my taxes on 01/27/2025 and it has stayed in pending since then. It was neither rejected nor accepted. The irs where is my refund has no record of it. I reached out to TT agent and they are confused about it. It has been more than 72 hours. This is frustrating. Please get this fixed. I have used turbo tax for the past 5 years. I am going to try to use HR block and file there instead
mine is also not showing as accepted or rejected. It's just hanging out in turbotax land doing nothing.
For a service I have paid several thousands of dollars over the more than decade I have used, this is garbage.
The answers given here by "tax peofessionals" are canned messages that are useless.
Turbotax needs to submit my returns or release their hold on them so I can go elsewhere. This will be the last year I use this service. It's an absolute money grabbing scam.
I filed 1/24 and my return is still pending, not accepted nor rejected. No one from TurboTax can tell me what’s going on other than it’s sitting with a note that reads “Will forward return to tax agency at the appropriate time”. I’ve talked to several reps and supervisors, no one knows anything. I’ve even reached out to the IRS and they state that they haven’t receive anything from TT. Definitely a TT issue and they have no resolution at the moment. I’ve been filing with Turbo for years and have never ran into this problem. I’ve been made promises for three days now and I’m still pending. Received a call from a manager at 6:30am this morning to basically tell me she doesn’t know what’s going on. Haven’t received any follow up or anything. Just a “be patient, it’s in transmission”, which is a lie!
Honestly, I’m thinking about also filing with H&R Block come next week. A supervisor told me “I probably shouldn’t be telling you this, but if I were you, I’d go elsewhere because it hasn’t been sent and I’m unsure when it will”. So more than likely, that’s what I’m going to do.
The answer is simple...TT has not sent thousands of efiles to the irs. All of our returns have a note on them stating "waiting to send to tax agency at the appropriate time". Every "tax expert" I have spoken to has either flat out lied and said the return was sent and the irs is "backed up" or have no idea what is happening but at least acknowledges that the return was never sent. I'm now a full 7 days since I filed my return and have remained in a pending status since then. I've contacted the IRS twice and both times they confirmed that there is no record of a return being sent to them. It seems TT is the only one that is having this issue and they seem to be lying to us in order to give themselves time before we all start to look into legal action against them for mishandling our returns. I've been using TT for 8 years and I have never experienced this and the fact they want to continue to lie to us and gaslight us into believing something that is 100% false is sickening. They need to send our taxes immediately!!!
